MN: Sporting and Lille working on agreement over Leao compensation

By Euan Burns -

Attempts have been made between Sporting CP and Lille to find an agreement over their dispute relating to AC Milan forward Rafael Leao, a report claims.

As has been reported by Milan News, there has been plenty of positive movement in recent days when it comes to the possible renewal of Leao at the club.

It seems that a new contract for Leao is closer than ever and what makes it an even more realistic prospect is that two of his former clubs, Sporting and Lille, are sitting down at the table to find a resolution about his departure from Sporting in 2018.

He left the club by terminating his contract after fans stormed the training ground. Lille then signed him on a free transfer. If they can find a compensation agreement, it would remove one major obstacle for Milan to contend with.

There is a will from all three clubs and the player to bring the matter to a close.

  1. This needed to be the resolution considered from the start. If we can’t sign him and need to let him go , we should sue both clubs and player representatives for forcing us to sell a player we wanted to keep but couldn’t due to their tardiness in addressing the matter. Those two clubs were the culprits in the whole matter. Sporting for not protecting their athletes and Lille for signing a player without obtaining the rights from his previous club in an ethical manner. We should not have to pay for this dispute and FIFA, UEFA should have been at the forefront of this problem to make sure it didn’t extend so long.
