MN: Stadium confusion persists five years on – risk of fan backlash high

One of the most dominant off-field stories for both AC Milan and Inter in recent years has been the future of San Siro and where the two teams will play in the future.

Various different options have been explored which included renovating the existing stadium and continuing to share, building a new stadium together for the two teams to share, or two separate stadiums being built for each team.

As highlighted by Milan News, the most progress that Milan have made is to try and build a stadium in the San Donato area of the city, but there is still a very long way to go before Milan are lining up in a new purpose-built stadium of their own.

Lately, more rumours have emerged about the possibility of sharing a new stadium with Inter, but the fans do not want to do this.

It was five years ago that Milan and Inter presented a joint project to build a new stadium on the San Siro site, but those five years seem to have been completely wasted. Now, they want to pursue another shared stadium project.

Various bureaucratic problems have stopped any development, as well as ownership changes at both clubs. The factor that they now must not forget is that the fans do not want to share a stadium and there could be riots if that happens.

  1. Just find the article where Scaroni was first introduced as our “stadium guy” and you wouldn’t need comedy movies for the weekend.

  2. It seems to me that they have been horsing around and blown smoke up our @rses then if all of this in regard of staying at San Siro is correct. Don’t get me wrong I doesn’t mind us staying at a modernized San Siro on the premise that the stadium goes back to its rightful owner, us AC Milan and no one else.
It seems like a huge smoke screen as some of us has been willing to give the ownership its time to prove themselves as they at least had shown the willingness to invest greatly in a new stadium.
Stadioni has basically wasted the last 5 years then, I wonder what his annual salary is at the club.

  3. This article is suggesting it’s really up to the clubs wishes alone? Both options (San Siro vs new stadium) have their advantages and disadvantages, I guess, but in the case of San Siro it should be sold for peanuts to the clubs as otherwise the municipality will be forced to maintain a huge open museum at great cost. I guess for the core of the fans that have the chance to attend matches, it would be better to keep San Siro.
