MN: Stand-in captaincy crucial as Rebic shows great desire to shine for Milan

By Isak Möller -

Ante Rebic is eager to redeem himself after what was a rather disappointing 2021/22 season, filled with injuries and few goals. The fact that he wore the captain’s armband against Lemine says a lot.

The Croatian international made a total of 29 appearances for Milan this past season and he scored just three goals and bagged two assists. Compared to the previous season (11 goals and 9 assists), it was quite a drop-off for him.

This season, as highlighted by MilanNews, Rebic is eager to redeem himself and shine for the Rossoneri amid transfer rumours. In the game against Lemine, he showed great determination and quality, despite it being a rather dull pre-season friendly.

He found the back of the net with a nice shot and also got to wear the captain’s armband. This was something that he joked about with his teammates afterwards (Romagnoli and Calabria), but yet it was a very important sign that Stefano Pioli gave it to him.

This season, therefore, could be the one for Rebic and since his contract will expire in 2025, it’s not exactly like Milan need to sell him this summer anyway.
