Franck Kessie made the headlines again last night after he saw red against Atletico Madrid which turned the tide of the game.
MilanNews recalls how Cakir changed the game by deciding to send Kessie off as the Ivorian midfielder was booked twice within a 15-mnute spell, in both cases for fouls on Marcos Llorente. The first yellow came because he was holding the shirt Atletico Madrid player, who had escaped from his marker.
However, he seemed to be heading to the wing rather than further up the field, but the moment he went down the first yellow card of the match was awarded, in just the 15th minute. Indeed the second foul came when Llorente received the ball in midfield and turned a good 50 meters from Maignan’s goal, and Kessie scraped his right foot, which Cakir promptly punished with a second yellow.
It is not an easy period for Kessie at the moment as he has had a slow start to the season. The reasons for this are three-fold: his participation in the Olympics (which Milan granted) which meant he has a disrupted preseason, the injury that hit him on his return from Milanello and the contract situation looming over his head.
The report mentions that a strong decision is needed either from Kessie – such as finally deciding to renew – or from Pioli to bench him in favour of the Tonali-Bennacer pivot.
