The decision to include Luka Modric in the squad for Genoa-Milan was taken as recently as this morning, when things took a turn for the veteran.

Earlier today, the news broke that Modric had participated in the entire training session at Milanello, wearing a mask to protect his face following the injury. Shortly thereafter, Massimiliano Allegri confirmed during his presser that the return is complete.

For Milan, this is obviously a huge boost as the midfielder has been absolutely fantastic this season, contributing with hard work, great passing, and even goals. That being said, what changed? Indeed, it was initially believed that he would miss the rest of the season.

The background on Modric’s return

According to MilanNews, Modric underwent some tests a few days ago to check if he could play with a protective mask. However, due to severe swelling, the veteran wasn’t actually able to try on the mask and his return was thus scheduled for the start of next week.

This morning, on the other hand, Modric felt that the swelling had gone down a lot and decided to try the mask. Since there were no issues, he trained with the group for the entire session and afterwards, there was a new meeting with the medical staff.

Modric expressed his willingness to return earlier than expected and as the medical staff deemed the mask to be enough protection, the player being able to put it on was the final step. And so, he was cleared to be included in the squad for tomorrow’s game.

  1. My god. If only all the other players had half the mentality… not even the talent (impossible
obviously), but the power of will… we wouldn’t be in this mess. Those guys really have no excuses tomorrow. Would be embarrassing to Modric if they didn’t give it their all.

  2. This guy wants to play one more year/+ so he’s putting all effort to make that happen, if Milan fall to get CL he might quit football after world cup.
I wish only 6 of our players had this mentality we would have been 1st in the league.
If he starts i promise to go see the match
