MN: Tactics, Possession and Athletics – Milan’s training report as new season approaches

By Ben Dixon -

AC Milan are being put through their paces by Paulo Fonseca, and we can gain a further understanding about the core principles of his system by the work being carried out.

We have already seen glimpses of ‘Fonseca-ball’ in the four friendlies that Milan have played, and the signs are very positive. Of course, there are two sides to this, the negative side is, it’s only friendlies, so getting carried away is unwise.

However, the positive take is that the signs are there, and the principles are showing. Fonseca has worked with the group for minimal time, and he was without several key players, and by the end of the window, there could be new key players.

Furthermore, the fact that signs are showing with players who have not trained with the manager for much time, suggests that if the Rossoneri are unable to add players quickly, late arrivals can still be embedded into the system.

Above all, pre-season is a time to allow players to get back into the physical conditions required for the season, whilst also focusing on tactics, and with the season nearing, Fonseca is focusing on three pillars, which are projected onto his managerial philosophy.

As Milan News reports, the session on Sunday was structured with three principles, athletics, possession and tactics. The squad began with some physical work, then moved onto some technical, possession work, and then the squad played a training match.

  1. Milan will have a good season, Fonseca has a positive mindset, and he likes to work hard and implement new ideas with the team, unlike Conte who has started behaving as Conte behaves, tantrums, lack of respect and a flawed ego.
