MN: The background on Milan’s pursuit of Maignan as the ‘Magic Eagle’ already impresses

By Oliver Fisher -

The Milan management had Mike Maignan lined up for a while as a potential replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to a report.

Maignan has been at Milanello for two days having reported for duty on Monday 26 July after his post-Euros holidays, and according to MilanNews he has already made a great impression. The Magic Eagle – as he likes to be called – was actually followed for a long time by the Milan scouting department and also by goalkeeping coaches Nelson Dida and Gigi Ragno.

He was watched in depth and immediately appreciated for his great reflexes and speed, and the report adds how it was immediately concluded that Maignan was the ideal profile both from a technical and an economic point of view to replace Donnarumma.

Having arrived from his home country and the only league (Ligue 1) he has ever known, he will need to adapt to his new life in Italy, but he is studying Italian in order to communicate in the best way with his team-mates. He will also work hard to improve his tactical reading and the choices made during the match.
