MN: The five players who stood out for Milan during their win over FC Köln

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan made it two wins out of two in preseason as they beat FC Köln at the RheinEnergieStadion on Saturday evening 2-1 to win the Telekom Cup.

MilanNews have picked out five players who impressed against the Bundesliga side, starting with Olivier Giroud who picked up where he left off after some crucial goals in the Scudetto-winning season. He scored a lovely brace and could have gone for a hat-trick but set up Ante Rebic instead.

Speaking of Rebic, he also had a good game as he looks as determined and hungry as ever. He was involved in the first goal by stealing the ball, and it looks as though his mentality as right where Pioli will want it to be.

Junior Messias had a positive outing too as his movement allowed him to get on the ball in isolation a fair bit, while he also showed good chemistry with Alessandro Florenzi for some time.

Pierre Kalulu looked as if he never went anywhere on vacation as he put in a very assured performance at the back, getting the better of the imposing Modesto on virtually every occasion.

Matteo Gabbia is the final name mentioned. In what is a crucial preseason for him, he put in a mature display both alongside Kalulu and then helping the younger Michelis in the second half.

  1. one reason I like Rebic is that he slows down the opposition very well on their counter attacks, in a jam he could play Tonali’s spot or the 10, where he played some at Eintracht before he came to Milan. Glad we kept him…..so far….
