MN: The situation regarding the €45m man AC Milan, Inter and Real Madrid are chasing

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan appear to have identified Sporting CP goalkeeper Luis Maximiano as a potential replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma.

MilanNews have provided some background on the young stopper, beginning by noting how Portuguese news outlet A Bola are reporting that Milan are readying a €20m bid for Maximiano.

Born in 1999, he has played all of his youth career with Sporting Lisbon, from the Under 15s to B-team. At the beginning of the 2018-19 season he was brought into first team but did not collect any appearances, and at the start of the present season he found himself on the bench.

In November though he got his chance: after two appearances in the cups he makes his debut in the Europa League in a 4-0 win over PSV Eindhoven.

His debut in the Liga NOS came against Gil Vicente on December 1st, and from there he definitively stole the place from his partner Ribeiro. Before the stop caused by the Coronavirus emergency, Luís Maximiano had collected 21 appearances and six clean sheets across the league, Europa League, Allianz Cup and Taça de Portugal.

The player’s contract expires in 2023 and inserted in it is a release clause of €45million, given his age (21) and potential, which has drawn comparisons with Milan’s own Donnarmma.

Inter and Real Madrid are also alert to developments, the report adds, but the Rossoneri could leverage the player’s will and therefore be able to sign him for a reasonable amount.
