MN: Thiaw hobbles around at the end of Sassuolo-Milan – what filters on his condition

By Oliver Fisher -

There is some concern about the condition of Malick Thiaw following today’s rollercoaster 3-3 draw against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium.

In the final minutes of the game the cameras picked up Thiaw in pain and showing some obvious physical problems that even made it difficult for him to walk. He was limping around the field and clutching his hamstring, but remained on the field because all the subs had been used.

According to what is being reported by MilanNews, the German defender suffered muscle cramp which later passed and thus he was able to continue. Tomorrow at Milanello, however, the player will be evaluated during the training session.

Thiaw was booked in the second half and he was one yellow card away from a suspension, meaning he will not be available to coach Pioli for the derby against Inter on 22 April.

Thiaw’s condition will be assessed in the next few days in view of the return leg against Roma on Thursday in the Europa League.

Given that Pierre Kalulu is out due to a ligament issue and Simon Kjaer has apparently picked up a flexor problem, Stefano Pioli will certainly hope that Thiaw is not ruled out for any period of time.

  1. “What filters” is not en English term. Sounds like a direct translation from Italian. Why do you insist on using it so often?

  2. Thank God this season is almost over before they start flying like chickens again in the medical room.

    Milan is ruining players fitness.

    1. Thiaw is ruining Milan defence. So I think Milan is doing the right thing.

No but really. I can’t see why we should keep this guy. He is so slow with the ball. His defensive stats are sub par. He just doesn’t seem to have the right smartness to be a top class defender.

Just look at how easy Volpato goes past him for the 1-0 yesterday and how he handles the situation for 2-0. Just too slow to react at the right time.
