MN: Three loanees set to return as Milan face dilemma – bolster depth or sell to raise funds?

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan must resolve the future of several returning loan players such as Andrea Conti, Mattia Caldara and Diego Laxalt.

According to MilanNews, the trio will be evaluated at Milanello in preseason as they could fill some gaps in the current squad. Regarding loan duo Fikayo Tomori and Diogo Dalot, for the former there is the clear will proceed in negotiations to keep him, but there are some doubts related to the asking price that United have set for the latter.

However, this season he held an important position as the deputy to Theo Hernandez and the deputy to Davide Calabria, being rotated both on the left lane and on the right. With his departure Milan should find one or more substitutes. Conti could fill the position of deputy Calabria, a position he has already held.

Looking at the other two players, namely Caldara and Laxalt, the first could be evaluated as an additional centre-back to be kept in the squad while the second is unlikely to remain as the deputy to Theo Hernandez.

The three are more destined to leave than to stay, because the Rossoneri project is proceeding quickly and looks to other profiles to strengthen the squad. Laxalt has an interest from foreign teams, while Caldara and Conti could have a market in Italy among medium-low ranking teams.
