MN: Training resumes at Milanello after Easter break – the latest on Pobega and Kjaer

By Oliver Fisher -

After the short Easter break that Stefano Pioli gave the squad after the win against Fiorentina on Saturday, the AC Milan squad returned to training at the Milanello sports centre today.

The next game on the slate for Milan comes on Saturday at San Siro against Lecce at 15:00 CEST, which will be the prelude to the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals that the Rossoneri will play, again at home, against Roma on Thursday 11th April.

According to the latest from MilanNews, today’s session was a ‘soft return’ for the team and in particular for players like Simon Kjaer and Tommaso Pobega who continued to carry out individual work on the pitch.

Pobega is recovering from a serious injury suffered in December in the match against Monza, for which he also underwent an operation in Finland. After some time away from the field, his return is near.

Kjaer meanwhile suffered a muscle problem during the friendly match with the Danish national team against Switzerland in the recent break.

The tests carried out after the game back in Italy ruled out injuries and the centre-back missed the trip to Florence as a precaution, as cinfirmed by Stefano Pioli in the press conference on the eve of the match against Fiorentina.

  1. All considered, I still see Kjaer ahead of Thiaw for the game with Roma, as long as he’s not injured.

This is not good for Thiaw, considering that Kjaer is with one foot out of the door. Hope Thiaw pulls himself out of the hole, otherwise he risks becoming the backup of the backup, or get sent on loan.

Yes, I know he just came from injury, but so was Kalulu and Tomori who performed much better right away, and plus he’s not new to these types of lapses in concentration (see first derby against Inter)
