MN: ‘Where is Pavlovic?’ – Milan’s defensive answer absent once again

AC Milan needed to add a central defender in the summer, and when Strahinja Pavlovic was elected to be added to the squad things seemed rather positive. However, the Serbian defender has been absent recently, and questions are being asked.

When it comes to summer signings, there is always a period of embedment into the squad, and perhaps we can argue Pavlovic is currently experiencing that. When you consider the start to the season he had though, there is a deeper worry.

Against Parma, Lazio, Venezia and Liverpool, Pavlovic was present throughout the full ninety minutes. Looking at the games against Inter, Lecce and Fiorentina, the Serb has played just one minute, a notable drop-off, leading Milan News to question where he is.

In the opening games, he was one of the few players to earn credit, being named as one of the better performers in the team, but since the Liverpool game, he has found himself stuck to the bench. Whilst his performance was poor, the report questions why Tomori has not seen similar punishments given he has also been poor.

As a whole, hope is not lost about the young defender, and the international break – where he will play a large part – should help him refind his rhythm.

    1. Tomori is key to our defensive system , if you bench Tomori you have to bench Theo Hernandez or ask theo to not attack and that just dumb , Tomori is the only defender we get who can cover the left side of the center back because of his speed and ability to play one against one without him the opponents will have all the space needed to have their way with milan just like inter did in that 5 _ 1 game without tomori

  1. Against Udinese Fonseca better bench Tomori and Abraham and play Gabbia-Pavlovic as CBs and Jovic-Morata up top ( thou its more likely we’ll see R-L-C and Morata)

Is Bartesaghi banned from Udinese game as well or will he be available?

Guess Jimenez will play to the left then. Unless Fonseca choses Pavlovic there who can play LB, to give is favorite pet Tomori another chance.

    1. @ Societyfoe. I totally agree. Tomori should be sold too. There’s a reason why he can’t even make the England squad. He’s not a good defender. Pavlovic is better and he will improve with time. But he needs to play alongside Gabbia.

Milan need to move some players out and Tomori is definitely one of them.

  2. “AC Milan needed to add a central defender in the summer”

First can the editors please learn to distinguish between facts and opinions.

Second in my OPINION no we didn’t. We needed a DM. We still don’t have one (Fofana isn’ one although he’s done better of late).

    1. What we really need is leaders, something Maldini, Boban and Massara understood well when they fought hard to convince the board to allow Zlatan and kjear to join. They changed everything when they arrived and I think we are back in a similar position

      1. One of those leaders is Gabbia who Fonseca tried to replace and was then forced to bring back.

And he’ll be forced to bring back Calabria who he also tried to replace (with Emerson Royal).

        1. They are not anywhere near the level they need to be at atm. Neither of them have that aura, the authority to command, the experience at the very top nor the skill to impress. I have belief that Gabbia can reach that level, but we are speaking 10 years in a successful milan first. We need someone who have been there done that and have respect from the group and the spine to slap them when they move out of line. Leao was a different beast with zlatan next to him
