In the past few minutes, it has been reported that AC Milan have seen the last of Luka Modric this season, despite suggestions otherwise this morning.
When Modric and Manuel Locatelli clashed for the ball on Sunday evening, it was clear that the Croatian had come out of the battle worse of the two. He was substituted straight away and spent the rest of the game with an ice pack on his face.
Even after the game, he did not look comfortable, with him seen to be holding his face when shaking hands with the opposition.

Reports earlier today suggested that the midfielder may have avoided a serious injury. However, after his scans this afternoon, this is not the case. In fact, as Sportske (via MilanPosts) reported, the midfielder has suffered a double cheekbone fracture.
Luca Maninetti also then reported the same information. The Croatian has suffered a fracture to the left cheekbone, which will require surgery. As a result, he is now expected to miss the rest of the season.
It leaves his future up in the air, as Milan have not been given a chance to say goodbye to the midfielder if that is it. Many will hope that he renews next season, even if only to get a proper send off.
Really unfortunate news.
He will still have time to recover for the World Cup. The injury is in the face anyway. He will be playing with a mask though.
He’ll be the boy wonder in the World Cup lol. This could be good for Milan, we need to know what we have in Ricci and Jashari. It’s wild that Ricci has not surpassed Fofana so that’s worrying but we really need to see if Jashari is going to work out or not. At this point, given the injury, we could still get close to what we paid for him if we decide to move on this summer. Maybe they should try a 4231 with Rabiot behind the striker with Ricci and Jashari in the two holding mids. Could be worth a try although I don’t see Allegri using that formation next year, so idk.

This is a great chance for Jashari. As we already more or less achieved our CL goal, the team should play with less burden.
Now we will know how strong or weak our squad depth is. Modric is the engine room of this team. the team might need life support for the next couple of games.

It would be time to actually put Ricci there or even Fofana to see how he does in this position. Jashari didn’t show a lot anyway. Realistically Ricci and Jashari would be sold at other clubs after a season like this but Ricci is staying as he is Italian so extra player for CL. So try him in his natural position…
Fofana’s decision making scares me to even attempt at the 6. But I do want to see Jashari get consecutive runs in that position.
My take as well.
One of the reasons we can not play four at the back (aside from having very weak defensive fullbacks) Is Modric is not a defensive midfielder…at all. I agree the formation probably won’t change…but if Jashari can play at all like he did in Belgium. Our 4 in the back would have extra bite. Although 4 in the back would also be bad for the “nearly flawless” Saelemaekers
Ricci has had much more game time so we know what he can and cannot do. Jashari should be the obvious replacement for Modric, but Allegri is unpredictable. I wouldn’t be surprised if he started Ricci instead.
I wouldn’t even be surprised when Füllkrug plays on Modric’s position haha.
