Modric delighted for Nkunku after first league goals: “We know what a top-class player he is”

Luka Modric has insisted that Christopher Nkunku deserved his first league goals since arriving at AC Milan because of how hard he works.

Milan signed off 2025 in style as they recorded a comprehensive 3-0 victory against Hellas Verona at San Siro on Sunday afternoon. It took 45 minutes to break the deadlock, but it was no surprise who got the opening goal with Christian Pulisic in the right place at the right time to fire home.

Then, it was the Nkunku show. The Frenchman won and converted a penalty to get his first ever Serie A goal, and then he slotted in from close range after a Luka Modric shot had been tipped onto the post but rolled along the line.

Modric: Nkunku is ‘top class’

Modric spoke to DAZN just after the final whistle had gone at San Siro and he offered his reflections after a positive afternoon of work. MilanNews relayed his comments to the broadcaster.

“It was really important for us to win today. We dropped important points against Sassuolo, so today it was crucial to win, and we deserved these three points.”

Nkunku finally scored…

“He deserved the goal. He works hard in training. We know that when strikers don’t score, they’re not happy. We hope this goal gives him a lot of confidence because we know what a top-class player he is. We’re here to help him and give him everything he needs. We’re happy for him.”

  1. He WAS a world beater like 3-4 seasons ago but those days are farr from now. Can he recoup that form?. Sure. He’s still young enough. But a 2 goal game midway through the season isn’t suddenly going to erase the terrible form we saw these last few months

    1. In know what you mean but actually with forwards the situation is such that those two goals might erase the past and give him all needed confidance. Let’s go Christian!

      1. Why would he throw him under the bus????…he was MOTM!! Deschamps also called Nkunku a top class player…seems the one with the problem is…you?

        1. Naah, I’m not the problem. Nkunku scores two goals and people think he’s an effing Pippo Inzaghi. You’ll soon realize that we’ve seen the best of him and he’ll go back hiding in the shadows soon.

          1. Where did anyone compare him to Inzaghi??….Can’t find that anywhere!?!?….Luka Modric said he is a top class player, not me…. and that seems to bother you!

We’ve seen the best of him? Well his best was 2 goals!! 2 goals not good enough for you? that’s ok bb, maybe he’ll get 3 next time, would you be happy then?? Probably not.

          2. Just because he scored 2 easy goals last match doesn’t make up for the 10 other matches where he was hiding in the shadows not helping the team one single bit. He’ll be in the shadows again soon.

    1. You seem to have a problem with match winning goals scorers being referred to as a top class player. I can’t help you with that.

          1. Nope. Just educating you on what “winning goal” means. Seems to be harder than I thought. Not going to waste time on hopeless causes though.

  2. Clearly your brain is shutting down….You should get some rest bb you sound delirious. Come back tomorrow all rested and coherent.

  3. Hi bb, just as I suspected, make a comment and disable replies…go ahead and run! Still, you can’t read can you??…Modric said he is a top class player…period!! did you not read the article??

Everything else after that, is just….your own talking points.

btw If penalties were so easy to score, why didn’t Pulisic put his ‘easy’ chance penalty away vs Juve?? Keep digging that hole my friend. Soon you’ll need a ladder to climb out.
