Both AC Milan and Napoli rely on their geniuses in midfield; on Monday, it will be no different. Indeed, Luka Modric and Stanislav Lobotka will face each other again.
It takes nothing to enjoy both midfielders. A mutual respect is shared between them and they are similar in several ways. At their core, they are intelligent players at the core of everything their teams do.
Yet, it goes deeper. They are not just the genius of their team, but they are also more than willing to do the dirty work or pop up with a goal.
Modric and Lobotka face off again
As Corriere dello Sport writes this morning, Lobotka has returned recently and found his rhythm once again in the process. Antonio Conte desperately wants him back in the core of his team, especially in a game that needs to be controlled.
Lobotka, in may ways, has become Conte’s professor, the player he can rely on during games to take control. However, he is not Modric, who is the reference point and perhaps always will be, especially for Lobotka.
The pair faced off several times in La Liga, with Lobotka playing for Celta Vigo. Then, they have faced in the Champions League, too.
It is a clash between eras, but for the duo, they have only really known each other. Lobotka as the professor, or perhaps the student. Then, Modric as, well, Modric.
So, on Monday, both coaches will once again rely on their cores. Both will enjoy the test of playing against one another, and with Modric reportedly arriving back at Milanello in the best condition possible, the excitement is rising.
