AC Milan will take to the field in a high-pressure and intense atmosphere on Monday night versus Napoli, but Luka Modric is ready for it.

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress) write in their preview of the big game of the weekend, Modric will try to shine as he always has at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, a ground named after someone who is a source of inspiration and perhaps an unattainable idol.

Modric: Milan’s beacon

The Croatian midfielder will be one of the many to set foot on that pitch, but one of the very few who will do so without being immediately overwhelmed by the grandeur of the occasion, given that he has played in the biggest games football has to offer.

Maradona will forever be unmatched in many ways, but Modric is one of the best midfielders in the history of football and will want to showcase his immense talent tomorrow too. In his first season at Milan, he is showing his leadership qualities and has been irreplaceable for Allegri.

So far in Serie A, he has made 29 appearances (out of 30), scoring two goals and providing three assists. His minutes played are impressive: 2,456, an average of 85 minutes per game, which at the age of 40 is no mean feat.

On Easter Monday he will be the pivot of Milan’s play again in a match that will say a lot about how the season finale will go, i.e. whether a Scudetto push is really possible or if just achieving second will be a success.
