GdS: Modric to remain at Milanello with pre-World Cup training plan devised

A plan has been outlined for Luka Modric after his season-ending cheekbone fracture, a report has claimed this morning.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) report this morning, it has been decided that Modric will undergo rehabilitation in Italy following Monday’s surgery at the La Madonnina clinic for a complex, multi-fragmented fracture to his left cheekbone.

Next week, he’ll have the stitches removed that were put in during the operation and he could be at Milanello from Wednesday onwards to begin training and maintain muscle tone. Naturally, there will be no training matches with his team-mates.

Instead the 40-year-old be running alone and working out in the gym, above all to keep his legs healthy and to remain in top shape. He won’t be as prominent as he’d hoped in the Rossoneri’s pursuit of the Champions League, but he’ll still be close to the team.

Luka’s workload will gradually increase while the team are at Milanello, which is until May 23-24. After Massimiliano Allegri decides that the season is done and players can go off in their various directions, it remains to be seen what the former Real Madrid man will do.

He could head to Croatia, his hometown of Zadar, or he may spend a few more days in the city (his children attend school in Milan) and use the training centre, along with other team-mates who will be competing in the World Cup.

Either way, Modric will keep fit while waiting to join his national team ahead of the World Cup, but there is a chance that he has already kicked his last ball for Milan competitively, given his deal expires.
