Luka Modric will be back at Milanello on Tuesday, and the hope is that his presence can give a deflated squad a much-needed boost.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) confirm that Modric will be back at the training complex today to begin his post-injury rehabilitation. The Croatian underwent surgery last week to repair the fracture to his left cheekbone sustained in the match against Juventus, after a collision with Manuel Locatelli.

Modric is now working towards his final World Cup with his national team, which kicks off in the middle of next month. He will play wearing a protective carbon mask and his injury must be treated with the utmost caution.

An important return

In recent days, La Gazzetta dello Sport highlighted how Modric had been toying with the crazy idea of recovering in time for the league match between Milan and Cagliari in the final round of the 2025-26 Serie A season.

Gazzetta dello Sport spread May 5 2026 ucl risk

This scenario would be quite a surprise, as the former Ballon d’Or winner would be back on the pitch less than a month after the extremely delicate maxillofacial surgery he underwent on April 27, 2026.

Regarding his presence back at Milanello, won’t train with his team-mates, but his arrival (he’s scheduled to work separately) will be a morale boost for the group. The 40-year-old hopes to return to the pitch before the end of the season, then his future remains to be seen, with a top four finish key.
