Moncada discusses Gabbia’s return and January window: “I can’t name names”

Ahead of tonight’s Coppa Italia clash between AC Milan and Cagliari, Geoffrey Moncada spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the upcoming January window. He also confirmed that Matteo Gabbia will return tomorrow.

Milan are looking to advance to the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia this evening, especially since Inter and Napoli have been knocked out already. Several youngsters are starting tonight, such as Alex Jimenez and Chaka Traore, with Stefano Pioli fielding a makeshift eleven.

Speaking to Mediaset ahead of the game, Milan’s technical director Geoffrey Moncada shared his thoughts on the upcoming January window. He also confirmed that Matteo Gabbia will return to the team tomorrow, having cut his loan at Villarreal short.

On the return of Matteo Gabbia…

“We needed a good defender, he is very important for us. He is a solid player, and a serious professional. From tomorrow, he will be with us.”

On the January transfer window…

“We need defenders given the injuries but we have to evaluate all the opportunities. I can’t name names, we have to work in secret, evaluate every situation and understand who we can sign.”

On the Growth Decree…

“We have to sign the right players for Milan regardless: decree or not, it’s not a problem.”

Milan definitely need to do more than bring back Gabbia, though, so it should be an interesting month for the Rossoneri and the fans. For now, however, Pioli will have to work with the players at his disposal.
