Vincenzo Montella is not upset following his first defeat at the rossoneri helm, following a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool.
Montella watched on from the sidelines as his Milan lost their third pre-season friendly. He had previously triumphed over Bordeaux 2-1 and on penalties over Bayern Munich.
Speaking to the media after the defeat, the former Sampdoria boss said he cannot blame his players effort.
“Other than the difference in condition I want to remind you that they [Liverpool] were Europa League finalists.”
“We know what we have to work on. I see that the lads are trying to put my ideas into the game. You can’t think in 15 days it’s possible to resolve all the problems and become a top team. ”
“I liked the approach to the match, the team is leaving everything they have on the pitch, but we are at the start of the journey. It is only normal that defeats will happen.”
The ex-Fiorentina tactician spoke on the fact that he is looking forward to linking up with Colombian striker Carlos Bacca. Montella left the forward behind, at Milanello in order to work on his fitness.
“I like strong players and Bacca is strong. We left him at home, in Italy so that he could work, I expect to find him in great shape.”
