Monza friendly offers opportunity to see stars but Fonseca must be careful

AC Milan will face Monza in the Trofeo Silvio Berlusconi on Tuesday evening. After playing a friendly in Austria, as well as three in the US, this will be their final test before the season opener. However, Paulo Fonseca must be careful.

The likes of Mike Maignan, Strahinja Pavlovic, Theo Hernandez, Tijjani Reijnders and Alvaro Morata have not been able to work with Milan properly this summer. Due to the Euros, and in the Serbian’s case a ‘late signing’, they didn’t join the team in the US.

As such, the Monza friendly will be the only opportunity for Fonseca to see these in action ahead of the season opener. However, since the latter is scheduled for Saturday evening next week, the manager must proceed with caution as he doesn’t want any injuries or tire his key players out too much.

It would still be good to give them some minutes, of course, as Fonseca’s style of playing isn’t exactly that similar to Stefano Pioli’s. Given the nature of the game too, it might not be of super high intensity and this should allow Fonseca to see just about enough ahead of the opener.

Milan Futuro, meanwhile, will start their season already tonight as Lecco are up in the Coppa Italia Serie C.
