Morata thanks fans and promises to aim for trophies: “Nobody wants to face Milan”

Alvaro Morata got his first taste of action in an AC Milan shirt during the Silvio Berlusconi Trophy win over Monza, and he insisted that he is ready for the season.

Milan ensured they ended their preseason campaign in the best possible way as they beat Monza 3-1 to retain the Berlusconi trophy, and there was a crowd of over 54,000 on hand to watch the game.

The opening goal came from a deflected Alexis Saelemaekers rabona, before Daniel Maldini rather predictably equalised before the break after some slack defending.

In the second half two substitutes sealed the victory for Milan, with Luka Jovic netting not long after coming on for Morata and Tijjani Reijnders scoring with a rocket from long range.

Morata spoke to Canale 5 at the end of the game to reflect on what was a positive debut for him and yet another preseason win for the team ahead of the new campaign. MilanNews relayed the comments.

It was your first game in a red and black shirt…

“It was really nice. I thank all the people who came in the heat. I did two training sessions with Milan, but I’m happy with my first 30 minutes. I think I’ll be much better at the start of the season.”

Today you played with a lot of determination…

“We have to get it into our heads to work well in attack. I watched the friendly matches in America. The quality is unquestionable.”

Do you think you can fight to win the Scudetto?

“Of course. You don’t need ingredients or the formula, this shirt imposes it on you. No one wants to face Milan. You have to work harder every day.”
