Tuttosport: ‘More customers, fewer fans’ – new San Siro shows Milan’s focus

AC Milan and Inter are set to collaborate on a new stadium, continuing the San Siro’s legacy. However, there has been a worrying report published this morning about the focus of the clubs.

There are few stadiums as iconic as San Siro, and for many it is a bucket list stadium. But, the important thing is the core fanbase, those who are there every week, thick and thin, sun and rain. Unfortunately, though, it seems like this group of fans may be reduced.

According to this morning’s edition of Tuttosport (via Milan News), in the new stadium, the amount of ‘fan’ seats will be reduced to 62,000, which is fewer than the current attendance. The reasoning for this is to allow 9,000 corporate seats to be incorporated into the stadium.

Of course, 62,000 is still an awful lot, but the fact that the corporate facilities are being expanded may be insulting to some fans, especially when tensions between the fans and the management are so high.

For the paper, it shows that the club are looking for ‘more customers and fewer fans’, which is bound to go down horribly. So we must wait and see how the plans fare out and whether there is reasoning for this.

      1. These are really intelligent comments by Ted and Igor. They don’t look like the unhinged rantings of mental cases at all…

  1. They should build a 20k stadium and give 19 000 to corporate partners and 1k sell to random people in lottery. But in USA, not in Italy. You can get a better price. Only that matters.

  2. Milan and Inter both average about 71-72k spectators per season after corona, and before corona Milan was around 52-55k and Inter was around 57-66k in a three year span.

A modern stadium with much better facilities and 71-72k seats makes sense. The initial plan was for 60k. So if they now make it 71k with 9k set aside for corporate its not gonna be the end of the world. We arent Liverpool were there are 60k on the waiting list for a season ticket.

I am curious about the ticket prices in a new stadium thou. My season ticket have gone up from 500 euro 5 years ago to 790 this season (58% increase). Im pretty sure it will be at least 1 500 euros by 3030 in a brand new arena….

  3. From the other point of wiev, if it means we will have more investors and more money from corporate, its still okey. 62k for fans is still good and if stadium will be full for most of matches its good
