Moretto reveals Allegri called Juventus defender: “No unanimity within the Milan world”

AC Milan tried to see if there was an opening to sign Federico Gatti in the winter window, but were unable to pursue a deal.

Milan were linked with a number of different central defenders during the January mercato, but in the end they decided to stay as they are. One of the most frequently mentioned targets was Gatti, someone that head coach Massimiliano Allegri knows from his time with Juventus.

A call from Allegri

In a video published on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Matteo spoke about the future of Gatti, revealing the background on Milan’s pursuit and what might happen when the window reopens.

“Gatti has a contract expiring in 2030, recently renewed, but he had the opportunity to leave Juve during the winter transfer window. However, the right offer didn’t arrive,” he said.

“There was also a phone call from Max Allegri to understand the situation, but there was no unanimity within the Milan world to proceed with a written offer to Juventus for Gatti, who continues to have the Rossoneri manager’s respect.

“I can tell you that Juventus will listen to offers for him in the summer – Gatti is certainly not an unsellable player. If the right offer were to arrive, the defender could leave Juventus.”

It remains to be seen if the Milan management will consider going back in for Gatti ahead of 2026-27, especially with all the talk of Lazio’s Mario Gila having already agreed personal terms over a five-year contract.

  1. Gila is worth under 20M given his qualities. Good on the ball, he is a vocal leader, quick and has a decent tackle. I prefer Lucumi over Gila because Lucumi is taller and has all the same qualities.

Gati is a sweeper and decent in the air on the ball he isn’t that good. But of course he represent a different profile to what u see in the current set up.

  2. Our CB’s are rotation pieces at most on a good team. If you’re gonna bring in reinforcements, you need to elevate the overall quality.

I don’t know how much Gatti fits that description, even if Max is able to get more out of him.

      1. The sarcasm in your comment aside, is it the individual players or the system? Because these same defenders who have “good stats” were actually “trash” last season.

    1. That or CBs “are rotation pieces at most on a good team” may or may not be true, but it’s all still relative to the immediate competition. We are, after all, second place, so if they’re rotational pieces on a “good team” the only better team than ours is Inter, which means that these CBs are good enough for Serie A. All we need to do is improve relative to our competition in Serie A, and we’ll be in the running for the title every season. If this season is anything to go by, we’re not far off of that at all. That our CBs aren’t “Man City quality” is irrelevant. Serie A is not the PL.
