Moretto gives background on ‘interesting acquisition’ of Kostic including Milan’s plan

Matteo Moretto has shed a bit of light on the negotiations that led to AC Milan getting the signing of Andrej Kostic over the line.

Milan have been linked with Kostic for months and they tried to get the signing over the line in January, but then things went quiet with no developments reported. However, our colleague Luca Maninetti reported on Saturday that Rossoneri have in fact completed the deal.

The teenage striker landed in Italy and began his medical assessments at La Madonnina clinic on Sunday morning. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news, while MilanNews went on to reveal that the transfer fee should be around €3m, which is less than initially reported.

A signing for the future

Matteo Moretto revealed a bit more of the background on the talks over Kostic during a video on his YouTube channel, with his comments relayed by MilanNews. He revealed that the club have actually secured a discount compared to the previously demanded amount.

“An interesting acquisition, especially with a view to the future. Negotiations began in December 2025, with Milan already sending their first offers to Partizan Belgrade, with the Rossoneri determined not to spend more than €5m plus bonuses,” he said.

“Ultimately, the deal didn’t come to fruition immediately, but on the last day of the recent January transfer window, there was a positive surge between the two clubs, with Milan confident they could relaunch and close the deal for the player.

“The final push, and therefore the deal, will be finalised in February. Kostic is already in Milan and has already undergone a medical. The figures for the deal are: €3.5 million as a fixed base to Partizan plus bonuses, plus a percentage of the future resale price.

“The boy, born in 2007, is young but not overly young because he’s already made appearances and put in good numbers with the first team, and has already played in the Conference and Europa League.

“He’s a striker already accustomed to certain types of stage. However, Milan’s idea is to have him shuttle between the first team and Milan Futuro.”
