Journalist Matteo Moretto has revealed what exactly happened on deadline day regarding Youssouf Fofana’s eventual exit and Fikayo Tomori’s non-exit.
Milan fans tuned into the coverage of deadline day hoping for a late signing or two to complete the squad available to the new head coach Ruben Amorim. However, in the end all of the drama centred around potential exits.

Fofana was heading for Lyon while Tomori was in London with his agent discussing a possible move to Fulham. Then, everything collapsed with Lyon while it also became clear the English defender was not returning to west London. Eventually, the midfielder ended up at Sevilla and the defender will return to Milanello.
Now, Matteo Moretto has shed a bit more light on exactly what happened in those final few hours of the market, with his words relayed by MilanNews. He starts with Fofana’s switch to LaLiga, out of nowhere.
“Youssouf Fofana went to Sevilla on loan in a truly lightning-fast move. Sevilla were desperate: they were searching for a central midfielder to cover that area of the pitch,” he said.
“The Lyon option for Fofana – which seemed all set to happen after salary issues – surprisingly fell through. And then Sevilla signed him at the last minute and made it official.
“This morning [yesterday] there was talk of Fulham [for Tomori], but they had already secured another player, the Elche central defender. Tomori was looking for an outgoing solution after being kicked out by AC Milan, but that solution never came.
“We’ll see if there’s room in any other specific transfer market, beyond the European one, in the coming days. However, as of today, Tomori is staying and has been reinstated.”
