Moretto: Gasperini aims to convince De Ketelaere as structure of €26m deal emerges

Atalanta are trying to accelerate and close the signing of Charles De Ketelaere with Gian Piero Gasperini even in talks with the player, a report claims.

According to Matteo Moretto of Relevo, contacts between the Atalanta coach Gasperini and De Ketelaere are ongoing as he looks to convince the Belgian playmaker that the short move to Bergamo is the correct next step for his career.

Given the multitude of different clubs linked with a move for the 22-year-old and the difficulties he has had adapting to Serie A so far, De Ketelaere might have reservations about trying to recover his form in Italy.

However, Moretto adds that the former Club Brugge man is closer to saying yes after the recent developments while he is aware there is an agreement between the clubs.

Atalanta would – if completed – pay a loan fee of €3m with a €23m option to buy included and a 10% resale clause in favour of the Rossoneri.

  1. He should be snapping their hand off for a chance to play for Gasperini for a year, the dude has a track record second to none with players of similar age – and he doesn’t have to make the full time move if he wants to try his hand in Milan the season after instead.

    1. Prettty sure it doesnt work that way because if he joins them on a season long loan with an option to buy he will already have agreed upon the new contract starting 2024 beforehand so doubt he would be able to refuse it later on as he would breach his contract.

      1. That does makes sense, I was thinking of it like the Xavi Simons loan last year where he had to choose between PSV and PSG at the end.

        1. I cant really speak of that deal as my knowledge of it is fairly limited but it would seem to me that i was just a loan without an option then but im fairly sure that when agreeing deals with options all technical parts has been agreed upon already before even making it permanent because otherwise the loaning clubs easily could be held for fools by both the players and the clubs already owning them.

      2. No, that only work for mandatory clause. In option clause, they still have to convince the player to sign the contract after activating the clause.

          1. are you really sure about that because the owning club and player could really cause some issues if the one with the option is planning forward with the player and then he then returns stronger for the competitor.
Pretty sure when a player is loaned with an option they also agrees upon the future one beforehand even though the current one is what for example cdk earns at milan.

  2. Please CDK, just go. Good luck. You’re not good enough to play for the great AC Milan. Go develop elsewhere. We’re sick and tired of you. Traffic cone!

    1. He would have had more assists if Tonali didn’t miss a huge chance assisted by CDK against Atalanta and Leao against Fiorentina. He would also have had more goals if Origi and Giroud wouldn’t have been offside in his first games where CDK scored twice. Ok it’s only 2 assists and 3 goals but this could have made a huge difference for the rest of his season. To me it looked as if he didn’t quite understood what Pioli wanted him to do and therefor changed his role into something he wasn’t capable of. CDK has talent and he will show it. Let’s hope he will do so for Milan as well in the future.
