AC Milan remain in talks with Rafael Leao’s entourage over a renewal, yet a potential sale cannot be entirely excluded.
It would be fair to describe 2025-26 as a strange season for Leao thus far, who has eight goals to his name despite playing in a new role. He isn’t at 100% currently, and was forced to sit out of last night’s win over Bologna.

In recent weeks there has been talk of a potential contract renewal for Leao, who last extended during the 2022-23 season, when Milan were on their run to the final four of the Champions League. Calciomercato.com even recently spoke of a mutual desire to continue together.
Renewal, then…?
Matteo Moretto spoke in a YouTube video on Fabrizio Romano’s Italian channel to give an update on a number of topics, and he commented on the future of the former Lille man.
“Leao’s contract expires in 2028. The parties are already negotiating and are determined to reach an agreement on an extension. We’ll see if any offers for the Portuguese come in this summer,” he said.
So, the implication is that Igli Tare and co. intend to get Leao to sign an extension on his current deal, but that this would not necessarily render him unsellable once the window reopens again.
Still has the potential to be one of the most potent attacking players on the planet, but still blows very hot and cold… if it were the right offer, I might be tempted to cash in.

If we intend to stick with Max I don’t think Leao will be in his long term planning. Unless Leao develops into a great Fantasista, and we partner him with a potent striker, but where does that leave Pulisic, who can cover the role as well and is better at linking with the midfield. At this point it’s all a matter of tactics, the current personnel and the decision of whether we will stick with playing with a Regista once Modric retires or switching to the use of a Trequartista in which case Pulisic can fulfill that role which leaves the SS/Fantasista role open for Leao.
TBD if Allegri will ever play without a flat three in the middle. 3-4-1-2 with Pulisic behind two attackers is interesting, but I would think that Allegri would still want a more physical player than Pulisic is in the hole. Think Kevin Prince Boateng. In fact, I think Rabiot would be brilliant in that role. It would mean needing to get another beast in midfield, so that he could play in the double pivot next to Jashari/Ricci/Fofana. Will this be Goretzka? So I think Pulisic would be the better SS, next to a no. 9. Leao is still the odd man out. Or even more to Allegri’s style, Pulisic and Rabiot behind the striker.

First Tonali, then Reijnders and next will be Leao? He is the most valuable player in the team, and is highly sought after by top clubs, and his sale will finance Milan’s summer market. Has nothing to do with whether he is a great player or not…he is WC, but Milan will need to sell 3 players otherwise. My take anyway.
Gerry will never put up his own money to bring in anyone good so it had to all be self sustained.
You want Chelsea outcasts and Reijnders? Sell Tonali.
You want more upgrades and to cover for CL absence? Sell Reijnders.
Push comes to shove in the future? They will sell Puli or Leao without hesitation and call it a “necessary” sacrifice.
That’s what I’m saying, Leao is likely to be sold to finance the summer market.
