Moretto suggests Napoli-Milan swap deal could gain momentum: “Needs to be fully explored”

Matteo Moretto has suggested that AC Milan and Napoli could negotiate a swap deal during the January transfer window.

While one would think that Milan being top of the league after 14 games means that the team is in good shape, Massimiliano Allegri has actually performed a minor miracle with a very threadbare squad. January could be the time to bolster the ranks with some reinforcements, therefore.

One of the big doubts surrounding Milan at the moment concerns the attack, with both Santiago Gimenez and Christopher Nkunku stuck on zero league goals. That and the absence of a reliable No.9 has led to both being linked with an exit.

Lucca-Loftus swap?

Moretto spoke on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel about the moves that Milan could make in January, and in particular one of the ways that they could get creative to get a striker.

“Milan are looking around and trying to figure out if there are any strikers who can strengthen the squad between January and June,” he said.

“Lucca’s name has been on the radar of Milan’s management in recent days, and there has been talk of a swap deal involving Loftus-Cheek between Napoli and Milan. First of all, Lorenzo Lucca is on loan at Napoli, so a hypothetical loan swap could only happen if Napoli were to buy Lucca from Udinese in January.

“Secondly, Napoli are a bit reluctant to give a prolific striker like Lucca to a direct competitor like Milan. On the other hand, it must be said that Loftus-Cheek can play various roles and has been finding more space in recent matches.

“Massimiliano Allegri certainly likes Lucca, but I can assure you that this transfer idea needs to be fully explored. Milan has a list of five or six forwards, all tied to a possible departure of Santiago Gimenez.”

  1. But then they will need to sign a midfielder because they’ll only have 5 and one of them is 40.
    No swap.
Also, why would RLC accept to go to Napoli where he would play even less when all their midfielders are healthy especially if he wants to earn a spot for the world cup.

    1. All things been equal RCL knows he ain’t getting f into that England squad regardless weather he plays consistently or not, same goes for Tomori.

  2. Nothing personal against Loftus but I’d do the swap in a heartbeat but there is just one issue already mentioned and that is that Lucca is on loan at Napoli with an obligation to buy if certain criteria are met so I doubt this story has much meat on it.
I assume the buy option is above 20 mil so cant see them activating it just to let him go immediately afterwards but who knows.

    1. Like seriously, I will never understand why the young lads ain’t given any chance. They may fare well with the first team better than any mediocre team they are shipped to.

Unrelated but somehow Jashari hasn’t been fully integrated now that he is fit.

  3. Lucca is hardly prolific at Napoli. He doesn’t fit into Conte’s way of playing which is why he rarely plays. Not sure he’d fit in at Milan either. And frankly, I’d be scared to see what Conte could get out of RLC given enough time to mould him.
