Moretto: Milan had last-minute move for Chelsea talent lined up – the background

By Oliver Fisher -

While all of the media attention was on Adrien Rabiot’s potential arrival, AC Milan were actually thinking about a late move for Carney Chukwuemeka of Chelsea, a report claims.

According to what Matteo Moretto has told SOSFanta, the Milan directors were looking for a solution for Ismaël Bennacer late in the month, believing that offers would arrive for the Algerian midfielder that they would have gladly evaluated.

Bennacer would have willingly accepted going to the Saudi Pro League, a destination very much appreciated by him and his family, but the reality of the facts is that the right offer never arrived at Milan’s desk.

Consequently, the Rossoneri were unable to move forward with the other incoming options for the midfield. The main objective was Manu Koné but let’s remember that, in addition to Yacine Adli, the sale of another ‘foreign player’ would have been needed.

In short, if Bennacer had left on a permanent basis and a few hours before the window closed, Milan would have made a concrete attempt for the former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, who ended up joining Roma instead.

If Bennacer had left even closer to the deadline, then Geoffrey Moncada and co. would have made a last minute attempt for Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka. The Englishman is not part of Enzo Maresca’s plans, and was looking for a new experience.

The surprise of the last few days could have been him and not Adrien Rabiot, with whom there were contacts only at the start of the transfer market but the topic didn’t go any further especially because his mother, Veronique, never gave a real answer to the possible destination.

The idea of signing Chukwuemeka could yet come back into fashion in January, even if it’s clearly still too early to say at the moment.

  1. My opinion I think I’ve had enough of Moncada as a sporting director. We don’t go for targets like Koopmeiners ok fine not even Koopmeiners but Ricci, bellanova, hermoso, buongiorno, calafiori or even hummels to help with our YOUNG defence. The annoying thing is I KNOW we can go for those marquee signings but I’m guessing moncada has no connections in Italy. To end this rant, we need an EXPERIENCED sporting director preferably sartori.

      1. Diallo (homegrown) is free agent next summer, with Cherki and J.David…

sell RLC and Chukwueze if he fails this season again, that’s like 50M in EPL..

add Kayode, Ricci (in 2025 he will be in his final year), keep the better of Calabria and Emerson
(maybe keep both and Calabria will be off the bench Captain like Henderson but for fullbacks)

  2. Pointless target. 3 players like this for 15-20M or save that and buy a proper player for 50-60M.
They’ll never get anywhere with buying random “talent”

  3. I was surprised that no Chelsea reject has been signed this summer but with the waiting game it was just delayed. Bennacer will likely leave this winter, the targets Rabiot and Koné are gone so unless Moncada finds some random dude somewhere I guess this guy will be the next stellar midfielder from the management.

  4. WTF is wrong with Moncada, why not look at Casedai, same profile, only difference is he is italian, which would actually help us. But no, Moncada hates Italians, it’s fxcking ridiculous.
