AC Milan are not likely to make a move for Ligue 1 midfielder Youssouf Fofana and Khephren Thuram this summer as there are other ideas to strengthen the midfield.
As has been reported by Matteo Moretto for Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing, Monaco’s Fofana and Nice’s Thuram are not currently genuine targets for Milan despite being linked with the club in recent weeks.
Moretto explains that Milan are on the hunt for a midfielder that gives them something different to what they have now, which suggests more of a naturally deep-lying midfielder who can set the tone for a match and protect the back four.
Links to Fofana and Thuram were inevitable but they are supposedly not targets right now. Whilst no other names are mentioned, Moretto claims that Milan have got ‘other ideas’ about midfielders that can join the club this summer.
Ismael Bennacer has been linked with a move away in recent weeks which could be where the gap in the squad appears.
Milan are well stacked for midfielders this season with the likes of Tijjani Reijnders, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Yacine Adli, Bennacer, Tommaso Pobega and Yunus Musah, but there may be a shake-up in the summer transfer window if they can land on the right target.
Other ideas like signing another b2b and playing him as a CDM ?

Hard to sell Pobega because we need him for squad list. If we truly sell him, we need to buy Ricci or someone that is at least association trained, like Gio Fabbian or Frattesi. Zaniolo could work too but I don’t want him. Buorgiorno or Scalvini would be dream. Italian keeper if Maignan leave.
I doubt Fabbian will happen, Inter has a buy back clause on Fabbian to exercise in 2025, but might get him sooner. Bologna is unable to sell Fabbian before 2025.
Zaniolo is not what we need.
Lotito is unlikely to sell Ricci for a fair price, and we won’t overbid.
Scalvini is also overpriced at this point (50+ million), I doubt we have him in our lists.
Buongiorno is the most likely to come, though Cairo will try to offload him to PL clubs to get more money. Hope the player pushes to join us, though Juve might also bid depending on what they do with the brazilian defenders (e.g. if Bremer goes to M.U.).
I also see Pobega staying, though a lot depends on how he performs during pre-season and whether another central midfielder is sold.
