Moretto: No buyback or sell on – why Milan could be left red faced by Colombo loan

AC Milan allowed Lorenzo Colombo to leave on loan this summer, but they could be left red-faced at the end of the season if he continues in his good form.

Although Colombo was expected to leave throughout the summer, he took part in Milan’s American tour and he made some good impressions bagging a brace against Manchester City. It got to a point where Paulo Fonseca was considering keeping him within the first team set-up with him asking for more time to evaluate him, as we reported exclusively.

However, the youngster still left the club, albeit on loan. However, with the rate of his current scoring, the deal may be made permanent at the end of the season. Included in the loan was a €7 million buy option, and with him scoring three goals in six appearances, that clause may be activated.

However, the Rossoneri may be left to regret their negotiations, with Matteo Moretto reporting for the Daily Briefing that there is no buyback clause in the deal or any sell-on percentage. Therefore, if Empoli activated the buy clause, the Diavolo would only receive the €7m with no future payments.

It remains to be seen whether he will continue on this path, but if he continues scoring at his current rate, €7m could be a bargain price.

    1. Jovic was kept, hhahahahahaha

in the new 4-4-2 Colombo would have been useful, but now that our starting 11 is settled I expect more Futuros:
Zeroli, Liberalli, Camarda, Bartesaghi, Jimenez, Vos

  1. Had we kept him instead of Jovic he would have provided more depth. He was irreplaceable in terms of an over 23 Academy trained players for the UCL list.
Instead we kept Jovic. Realised after 2 games that we need more than one CF and brought in Tammy.
Leaving no space for Jovic on the list as a non Italian trained player.

    Colombo was.
    1. More suited to the needs of the squad/formation
    2. Occupying an otherwise unusable list slot.
    3. Had shown good form in preseason

        1. If he stayed on, we wouldn’t get Tammy A. Keeping Colombo instead of getting Tammy would not have been the right decision in my opinion.

And if you are suggesting sell Jovic, Jovic is still on the fringes and was ready to fight for his place. Seems like Colombo wanted a more active role. Besides Jovic is a luxury back up unlike Colombo, who is yet to prove that he can perform under the weight of the shirt (goals in pre season friendlies don’t count).
