Mourinho claims draw is ‘unfair’ for Roma: “Only we can play like this against Milan”

By Oliver Fisher -

Jose Mourinho has rather predictably made the claim that AS Roma deserved to get all three points after the dramatic 1-1 draw against AC Milan at the Stadio Olimpico.

Just as it looked like the game was drifting towards a 0-0 draw with zero shots in target, the game exploded into life in the capital. Tammy Abraham got the first goal of the game when he took a touch inside the box and buried a shot into the bottom corner, almost certainly sealing a big win for the home side.

However, Milan never stopped fighting and they stunned the Giallorossi in the seventh minute added. Rafael Leao was the provider with a lovely cross to the far post, and substitute Alexis Saelemaekers was on hand to convert to snatch a dramatic draw, not too dissimilar to how Roma had in the reverse game.

Mourinho spoke to DAZN immediately after the full-time whistle to give his raw reaction to the late drama that occurred, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“If we only talk about performance, I think that the draw is unfair for us. Only us, only us, with what we have built from the point of view of what we are as a team… only we can play like this against Milan with all the difficulties we have,” he said.

“We are not a rich team, we are not a team with a rich squad and every player we lose is a big loss. And we haven’t lost one, but many. Playing this match against Milan fighting to get to the top four, I think only we can do it. I’m more proud than sad; sad because the three points seemed so close.

“There are coaches who play as they want, choosing everything. We have to build game after game with what we have available. I like to say that these guys are fantastic. Maybe the central defender from Roma Feminine can play with us… They are two dropped points today.”

  1. Play like this? Like what? Defensive (read: negative) football in front on your home crowd? Play dirty so the other team will have the same injured players list?

  2. The nerve on this guy. Play dirty, break legs and defend with 11 players in a home game. Yeah great game. Shame on whoever hired you.

  3. Like what? Like a bunch of cowards parking the bus, wasting time and slaughtering opponents with leg breaking tackles? At home?

Allegri has the most boring style, and Mourinho has the ugliest.

  4. The same person who throw his players under the because his team got eaten by Norwegian club in a random competition

  5. I always wondered why all Roma players are 180cm+, and half of their starting XI is 190cm+. Last night they showed that it is in order to physically damage and injure opponents. Dirty cowards.
