Lorenzo Torriani could be in for a significant promotion at AC Milan, taking on a more senior role amid the Mike Maignan uncertainty.
After being linked with a move away from the club, including to Chelsea, Maignan ended up staying at Milan. Along with Max Allegri, he agreed to continue at least until next summer, when his contract with the Rossoneri will expire.

Milan are hoping that the renewal talks can be revived at some point during the current season. At the same time, they need to keep all options on the table as the Frenchman could decide to say goodbye. Then, a Plan B would be needed.
Senior role considered
According to MilanPress, in addition to Maignan, Milan are carefully evaluating the future of their youngster Torriani. The 20-year-old is one of the Rossoneri’s most promising players, but currently, he’s merely the third-choice keeper in the first team.

As such, Milan know that they will need to make a ‘proper’ decision regarding Torriani next summer, and it will hinge on Maignan. If the Frenchman were to leave, then Rossoneri could give Torriani a more senior role, alternating with a more experienced keeper between the sticks.
Another season as a third-choice keeper would be a waste, so if Maignan were to renew, then Milan would consider a loan or maybe even a permanent sale of Torriani.

Toriani is great player it’s right time to give him chance
Next summer? If Maignan doesn’t sign a contract by December I would bench him until the summer and play Torriani. He can prepare for the World Cup with Primavera.
Agree, maignan was one of our best player but gigio give us a lot lesson, if maignan already set his heart to chelsea then we should give torriani shirt no 1 asap
If we have a chance to qualify for Europe then we should absolutely play Maignan as first choice until the end of the season and wish him all the best for the future. He’ll have paid back the lack of a sale if he plays an important role in that and it’s not like we have other defensive leaders.
Don’t get me wrong, I want Torriani to see cup games and be second choice, but compromising the team just to make a point to Maignan about not signing a contract that, don’t forget, we pulled out of signing originally… it’s ultimate ‘cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face’.
Why? He isn’t even in top half of Serie A goalkeepers in last 2 seasons? He isn’t a person that makes any difference on the football field, just watch him in the past 2 years.
If we play Torriani and he does good he will be a 50M€ goalkeeper soon and we will have a starter until Furlani decides to cash in.
And I forgot to write, about the contract, who pulled out is irrelevant at this moment and for this decision. Completely irrelevant. If he doesn’t want to sign he is leaving at the end of the season and Milan needs to look after themselves, and not Mike Maignan.
If it was me making the decision and he didn’t sign the contract I’d sell him for a few M€ in January, if someone would take him. If not he would be the 2nd choice, if the kid gets injured.
In theory you’re right and maybe that’s what they should have done with Gigio. But it was Milan who pulled the renewal from Mike, not the other way around if the storylines are to be believed. I don’t hold Mike to fault here.
The question is whether Allegri can convince him to stay and extend. Although the prospect of playing in the EPL is far more lucrative than playing in Italy.
And then it was offered again? So now he is insulted and doesn’t want to sign. Ok, great for you Mike Maignan, but goodbye, you will leave for free soon and this is why this bench place is your spot for the next xy months. We need to think of AC Milan, its future and reputation. Well it would be like that if Milan had a proper owner, not the US fund.
Let’s make him first choice to be honest I dont see the expectational performance torriani can achieve with growth look at dollar if he didnt get a chance he wouldn’t have be the keeper he is today , maignan made mistakes also with his positioning regardless how good he is so what are we saying . We need more academy players, cause its funny how we say that are not good enough but they go to other teams are proof us wrong
Let Torriani get some playing time.
If he is good then let him play and bench Maignan.
And to the management! If you start negotiating with players and then don’t come back with a good enough contract or freeze the negotiations for a long time, don’t be surprised they don’t extend.
He deserve a chance
Why would he be a starter if he’s not even 2nd goalkeeper right now? Doesn’t that mean we would promote Terracciano before Torriani? We’ll probably buy that Suzuki
Maldini chose Maignan ….. so buffoon furlani will do his best to get rid of him!!!! What a stupid person …. who promised a salary to maignan and then went back on his word ….. my god please help us get rid of this great idiot.
Torriani is such a wonderful talent please let them promote him if given regular playing time he will be better than maignan, the boy is talent it self haven’t watched him several times he has proved himself
If he is in the squad list, play him in the Copa to give him experience
In my opinion, Torriani needs to at least be given a run of games this season. We have to see what this kid can do when given a real chance, or else he will just be another Academy player at Milan who will waste away on the bench. I actually don’t understand why Milan invested in Terracciano as 2nd choice, when Torriani has proven himself at every opportunity?? It’s such a typical Italian move, to absolutely NEED an alibi player above a certain age no matter what. Maldini made the same mistake when he signed Ballo-Toure because he didn’t trust Kerkez to be 2nd choice.
Torriani should’ve been sent on loan this season, since his progress will stagnate at some point when he isn’t doing anything at Milan…
