Yunus Musah has been given some advice regarding his future by AC Milan legend Massimo Ambrosini.
Musah signed for Milan from Valencia for a fee of around €18m in the 2023 summer transfer window, and he made 40 appearances in each of his first two seasons with Milan. However, his form was very up and down, and with several midfielders arriving this summer he was sent out to Atalanta.

Milan have already banked €4m from the loan, but Atalanta must be convinced to pay another €25m to buy permanently. The former Valencia man has been an unused substitute in five of the last nine league games for La Dea which says a lot, even if he did recently score twice in a week.
‘It’s not good for him’
GOAL spoke to Ambrosini about a number of topics, including the future of Christian Pulisic. They also asked him about the crossroads that might well be approaching for Musah this summer.
“You know what? Last year, Musah played not in his role. When there was [Sergio] Conceicao, the coach, he made Musah play on the wing, right wing. He didn’t perform very well,” he said.
“That’s why around him, when he used to play after that period, everybody in San Siro was chatting and it was not good for him. He needs to find another situation. But Atalanta, I don’t think is good for him because he is not playing.
“I think he’s a better player than what he showed at AC Milan. But the next step for him is finding a club who makes him play every day, every game. Because I know perfectly how difficult it is playing 30 minutes, two games off, 10 minutes.
“It’s not easy for him. But he’s a good player. For me, he’s a better player than what a lot of people here in Italy think.”

Musah BEST position is RWB. I played well and closed down Vini Jr in the champions league and he alo played well there against Juventus in the Super Coppa Itália. Milan should use him as a RWB.
He’s not consistent enough for midfield but he can dribble and defend better than Salaemakers and Athekame.
In order to play as a RWB one has to be good at crossing, and Musah isn’t good at crossing and passing in general.
Very sharp observation. His crossing and passing are below average. He is ok with carrying the ball and running forward. He does not seem to even know where he should play to begin with. He is the type of player that would tell their coach “I am raw and I have no preferences, play me where you think is best.” The thing is that he should have got this question sorted out a long time ago. He is turning 24, not 14 to challenge the coach to figure out where he should play.
It is interesting.
But let think at the moment.
If Athekame is still very young, and Milan is going to play UCL and very difficult serie a Season, would Musah be better back up option than Athekame who also needs more minutes?
Musah lost a lot of balls where Milan conceded goals, we remember, but he played as midfielder, can he recover his passing and play 1000- 1500 minutes as back up rwb… ??
Athekame is already a better RB/RWB than whatever we think Musah is.
Actually Athekame might even be on path to become our starting RB. He has much better basics than Musah although Musah is certainly the better athlete.
Also for all the talks about Musah being a “RWB” it seems that no one in Atalanta bothers even giving him minutes as a RWB. Each time Musah was subbed in or started, it was as a midfielder and Atalanta plays a system that requires wingbacks.
I agree he can be subs for saele
No way he is a better dribbler than Salaemaekers. Musah’s dribbling is on par with Fofana at best.
Pioli played him as RWB and RB a couple of times and he costed us points. He didn’t stick to his role and was easily overrun.
He is in the game for the money but football was never meant for him. He should have become an American football player because he actually has all it takes to be one. I am not mocking him even for the slightest, I am being honest on this one.
I’m not into American football to any extent as I pretty much hates it when its shown in tv clogging up my programmes but each to their own but I have a question here, at 1.78 meter tall wouldn’t it possibly make him the absolute smallest NFL player ?
Not all NFL players are tall. There are several positions for which being tall is not important. When people think of Musah playing American Football, if they understand the game and the positions, they are likely thinking that he should be a running back (and those don’t need to be tall). He has the characteristics for it: he is athletic and speedy. He carries balls well, forward, which is what running backs need to do. In football (the soccer/calcio kind) he does carry the ball to the vicinity of the box; his main problem is that then, he doesn’t know what to do with it. He passes poorly and/or finishes poorly. However, in American football, the point is just advancing forward. A running back doesn’t need to pass or kick the ball to the uprights. This is why people think that Musah would be a better American football player than a football (soccer/calcio) player.
This said, American kids start playing American Football in middle or high school, then college, before they try to get to the NFL. So it’s more than a decade playing and learning the game. Musah would have to start from scratch, and he wouldn’t be likely to be very competitive against those who have played the game their entire lives.
Musah made an option to play football. It has to do with the fact that although he was born in the USA, he spent his youth/formative years in Europe, so that’s how he ended up being a football player.
If he were in the United States when growing up, he would probably be an American Football player. Too late for him. He is now, and forever, a mediocre football player, and he lost his opportunity to be a good American football player.

Talking about being mediocre, I do not want Musah’s return to AC Milan. I think he is quite the headless chicken and not very helpful to the team.
Good point.
I also like to add that he is too “light” for NFL. I think even the smaller NFL players weight at least 90kg right ?
He might make a good track&field athlete. He is fast, strong and has endurance and track&field doesn’t require complicated techniques or team play.
Yes, those two going on about height 😂😂😂 Musah is 100 lbs less than the average NFL football player.
This Krunic’s Heir knows nothing about American football. The bulky, heavy ones are the defensive line ones. The running backs who are offensive players, don’t need to be tall, and don’t need to be heavy either. They are offensive players who need to be athletic and speedy, and some of the best are tiny and nimble. The heavier you are, the less speedy you are. American football has specialized positions with their own specific body types. Thinking that they are all either heavy or tall denotes stereotypical thinking and a lack of familiarity with the game. While I am obviously primarily a football (soccer, calcio) fan, I am also curious about American Football and have watched multiple games of this sport on TV and even in person during trips to the United States.
Crap player, always was. The fools who claimed we’d regret letting him go to Atalanta have fell silent. Musah has no tactical intelligence. If he doesn’t have a good World Cup, we’re stuck with this dud.
musah doenst even get starts in the american national team
