AC Milan are ‘close’ to a deal with Napoli over Yunus Musah, it seems, with the out-of-favour midfielder open to the move.
There has been a lot said about Musah this season, and unfortunately for the midfielder, not all of it has been positive. In fact, he has delivered several poor performances and struggled to get back on track since.
So, an exit, one way or another, seemed likely this summer. However, the interested party is perhaps a bit of a shock.
Conte’s love
We go back to last summer to find the first instance of Napoli’s interest, and the reports suggested that Antonio Conte liked the profile of the American. However, Milan wanted to retain the midfielder, believing he could progress.
Of course, we know that was not really the case. Despite a number of different positions, the former Arsenal academy man has failed to solidify himself in one role, and now just fills in when needed. A utility player, but not a good one, unfortunately.
Despite this, Conte has remained infatuated with the midfielder and has tracked him since the end of April this year to see his situation, as Daniele Longo reports for Calciomercato.com.

The deal
With an exit likely, then, there is a big question to answer. How will it be structured? Well, Longo continues his report, stating that negotiations are around the €20 million mark plus bonuses, which you would imagine take the deal near €25-30m.
Considering the Rossoneri spent just less than €22m on the midfielder two summers ago, it is not a bad deal to receive. However, his time in Milano has certainly underwhelmed.
Good riddance.
Given how much Conte wants him, I would not let him go without 25 mln, excluding any potential bonuses.
Musah could become the next McTominay under Conte…..
“Musah could become the next McTominay under Conte…..”
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀
Musah has potential. It would be like CDK.
potential to end up in MLS
MILAN MANAGEMENT ARE SO USELESS, THEY NEVER GET THE BEST OUT OF THE PLAYER. MUSAH SHOULD STAY AND LEAO MOVES
Musah is useless, don’t you remember why we had to play that extra CL match?
I would rather have RLC over him.
He is evenly or more to be blamed for losing the season , but they only talk about Theo, leao and mike
If leao moves then there is no quality in team
Musah has just few great games… like against Real… he is average midfielder, this is like a win a lottery if we sell him with profit…. in two season he don’t score and make 4A… he is weak like winger, like midfielder and wing back…. this is his maximum , if Conte want him we should be happy and reinvest money to better profile…
We have deadwood and Napoli want it apparently.. Didn’t they learn anything from the Okafor deal?
They did take Manchester United’s deadwood in McTominay and turn him into the best player in Serie A.
We didn’t do Musah any favors constantly playing him at different positions. He has potential but his football IQ is not the best. Given proper direction and consistency I still think he can be a good player. But not at Milan. That ship has sailed, but wouldn’t be surprised to see him do well somewhere else.
McTominay was and is a far better football player than Musah has ever been and probably ever will be.
McTominay wasn’t deadwood – every United fan I know didn’t agree with the move at the time.
Not many Milan fans will miss Musah.
Calling McTominay a deadweight while he was at United is a stretch. Yeah, he either came from the bench or started, but was still second best scorer on the team.
He was never deadwood.
He was sacrificed to meet FFP rules. Man Utd were spending too much and had to sell someone, even Man Utd was not happy to sell, it was a sacrifice.
However, I have always maintained Musah is a good play who will explode under the right management.
McTominay was never a deadwood at Man Utd. Check his stats for the number of goals he scored two seasons ago, despite coming on from the bench. Musah has potentials, no doubt, but he hasn’t improved them. It’s a win win situation, regardless of whatever he becomes in the future. They believe in him; we don’t, anymore. It’s a piece of good business, if they can get this deal across, for that amount.
Musah is better then Ricci,so if we lose Musah we are realy joke club at the moment. First we need sell players which we dont need, that doing smart clubs, then buy what we need and at the end sell our best players.
We doing at another way,so soonnor late nobody will respect what Milan want or need.
And musha, shows flashes, but had some c ostly blunders….
All in all, still much much
Much more than CDK
There’s a lot of people who will cheer at this but I’m on the fence. He’s not been able to nail down a starting spot or show any sort of consistency, but he seems to be a hard worker with unrealised potential and there’s a very good chance a sale will make us look silly after he’s spent a year or two under Conte.
Still, for now, if we can make money on his sale then it’s something we need to consider. Personally I’d prefer a loan out but we’re clearly chasing funds for a more comprehensive rebuild.
Couldn’t agree more. This transfer, if it goes through has potential to be a mistake. In the meantime, 20M-25M is not a bad haul. Hopefully he has peaked and there will be no regrets.
Milan shouldn’t sell him, because he can be a backup, and also I kno Milan will not bring a backup to replace him better but worse
That’s Milan of today!
Will appreciate a loan than selling him outright.
I see us regretting this decision in the long run. Will milan even replace him with someone better is also a topic for discussion.
I think when the ownership/management messes up they deserve all the criticism that they get but if they actually manages to sell Musah for 25-30 million then they also deserves some credit here.
I’ll believe it when I see it though as the American has been an absolute disappointment for us. He gave his all but hardly even mediocre for us a great deal of the time and I actually did have some hopes initially.
Anything over 2M€ for him is a huge win for the management. 🙂
To be fair I wouldn’t sell him for 2 mil 😀
Agreed – I found the Musah purchase weird from the off – always felt like he was only here because he’s American…
I had a bit of hope as Gattuso had recommended him but he has been absolute dud 95% of the time and I rarely is one of the people who screams for us to sell this or that player but has given him the benefit of the doubt to develope due to his age but I see no development so I absolutely think it would be right to sell him now while we can.
Only positive for me is basically his work rate.
For me it is obvious, Tare are building a time solely for next season, to challenge for the title, they are not looking further then that and the targets been mentioned highlight that very point, to spend next season getting the series a title.
So they will play Conte at his own game, not think ahead of just 1 season, don’t waste time and money on what may happen in 2-3 years and that is how Conte operates and I think this is pure genius from Tare and Allegri
Could very well be Malik lets hope they manage to create the right group of players who can do exactly that. We as fans deserves nothing less considering the finished season we had to endure.
Chelsea doesn’t want to pay a cent over 15m for Maignan.
Atletico reportedly wants to offer around 15 m for Theo hernandez.
Napoli offers Milan a deal that would buy Musah, who is supposedly trash, for more money than Milan paid for him 2 years ago.
Levels.
The bottom line is that Musah has to be either loaned or sold. Made too many mistakes. Another poor performance in a Milan jersey would be too much for him mentally to get over. The fans will not give him a clean slate to start the new project and the best for all parties is to part ways.
A proper coach like Conte and a proper team will give him better form next year. As long as Conte can make him a better decision maker.
It’s just not meant to be for Milan and Musah. Yes he might perform great under different team, circumstance, pressure, etc. But so be it. Getting 20ish mil from his sales is the best outcome for this scenario.
Another talent thrown away … Omg.. even Tonali had his first season so and so. Because he had a bad season they are selling him. I see great potential in this player. And if conte believes in him, there is a reason !!!!
Tonali was better than Musah in his first season than Musah has been in his two seasons and 80 matches combined. No comparison between them here.
He just wants to complain.
“Another talent thrown away”
“Omg”
It’s ok if that is Waynes view but I certainly doesn’t see eye to eye on that.
Right now. Bennacer scored a wonderful goal for Algeria in a friendly against Sweden in Stockholm.
Losing 4-0 until then.
Good for him but I was watching Denmark thrashing Lithuania 😀
I believe a loan would be better for him. Honestly, I believe he would fit under Allegri football. He’s not a bad player, he’s a fighter needs to work on his finishing and shooting
25M that can be used to get de Cuyper or Leoni + Fazzini
He would fit Conte style. Again, he would do as bad in Allegri’s either. If we can reinforce the midfield I’d support the sale.
Musah is the perfect type player to take a risk on. He has great athleticism, which is why Conte wants him. The commenters above suggest he has peaked, but players also reach a bottom and rise from there. He failed here, and was rightly demoted for his mistakes. But I suspect the only way for him to go from here is up. I bet he will do better under Conte, who rightly sees a potential diamond in the rough. He needs new surroundings, and its best he go elsewhere. The unforgiving fans here have made him a lightning rod, as is illustrated by the number of comments every article about him draws.
$20m for Musah is WILD 😄 Maignan is rumoured at $22m, for example, due to Maignan’s expiring contract and age. But put aside those extra variables and look at what you’re getting…
Hmm Bad deal ,let allergri access them first
Another player leaving. Conte is a very smart player manager, but not smarter than everyone posting here, apparently.
Why wouldn’t they send him outside Serie A?
Big mistake!
Coaches love Musah.
First Okafor and now Musah, looks as Conte is the only guy dedicated to make Milan better.
Milan never looked good with Musah on the bench did they? Or did the spectacular, dominating football we were playing all of a sudden come off the rails when he played?? With and without him Milan were terrible. Him leaving will not make us better!
For those defending Conte, this is the guy who prefers Lukaku to Osimehn. Conte isn’t some footballing genius. His teams are the same as he was as a player – hard running, no flair.
