There is a big question mark for AC Milan in the middle of the pitch and in the summer, it must be solved. In short, there could be changes in midfield.
When looking at the current state of the Milan team, you would argue that the midfield is probably the strongest area. However, things could shift in the summer, with a few questions being asked. Indeed, it may quickly become an area of uncertainty.
Several questions in midfield
Gazzetta dello Sport have looked into the situation this morning and states that the area is a ‘huge question mark’. There are several things to consider; internally, evaluations are already beginning.
It starts with Luka Modric, whose future has been a discussion point for some time now. He will either retire or renew his deal in Milano. Unfortunately, there are no hints as to which way he will decide currently.
Youssouf Fofana and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have enjoyed different roles this season, one has been a regular starter and the Englishman has played a bit-part role. Yet, their futures may align away from the club. They could both depart this summer and there are plenty of suitors.
Then come the youngsters of the current team, Ardon Jashari and Samuele Ricci. Both were signed for decent fees in the summer and the Rossoneri have not utilised them. As a result, serious conversations need to be had about their futures and how to get the best from them.
Finally, a question arises about Christian Comotto, who is impressing at Spezia. Massimiliano Allegri is already a fan, but the question is where he will be next season. Is he ready for a step up to Serie A and will it be with Milan or someone else through another loan?
RCL by all means needs to be moved on, Fofana is the only midfield in our current squad who can utilize passing lanes successfully and its been proven every game, but everyone wants to move him on quickly.
Jashari however is a different case, I he hasn’t been give enough time to be evaluated correctly, that he and Jashari are struggling is the fault of Alegri for deploying them wrongly.
Who do we possibly sign that will be within budget and obviously be better than the current players who start?
This Milan team is built for a 433. Tare said at the start of the season we would play 433. Maybe it would have made more sense to hire Sarri instead of Allegri.
Because if Allegri doesn’t switch to a 433 permanently we will have to sell players like Leao, Nkunku and possibly Pulisic to rebuild the team to play 352.
That means another overall of the squad this summer. That makes absolutely no sense.
Even Nkunku plays better at LW and Salaemakers plays better at RW. Which means we already have quality backup for Leao and Pulisic.
Athekame can play at RB and we therefore need to sign a quality LB and a top striker like Retegui who can score equally with both feet and his head which makes him the best option over Kean and Vlahovic.
We could have challenge for the scudetto if Allegri utilize 433 more as it also create more goal scoring chances.
Tomori must be sold and Pavlovic should be sacrificed because he is definitely not good playing in a back 4. Sell him to Chelsea for 60+ million and buy Calafiori from Arsenal and Gila.
Calafiori and Gila will be our starting CB with Gabbia and De Winter as our backup CB.

Out: Pavlovic, Tomori, RLC, Fullkrug, and Estupinan
In: Gila, Calafiori, Retegui, Santi Castro and Zaniolo
Agreed, and not bad additions.
This would be my plan: estupinian, tomori, RLC, Pavlovic, saelemaekers & either Nkunku/Fofana sold.(If Modric stays, then Fofana, if he retires, then Nkunku. Fofana as a DM would constantly win the ball back.
When you total this with the CL money, and those out on loan. We could be sitting on about 260-300mil.
I’d bring in, Kayode for 30, Cambiaso for 40, Scalvini for 40, Zaniolo for 15, Tonali for 80, retegui or kean for 40, Gnonto for 25, Tresoldi for 25, goretzka on a free, Ake for 12. That’s 307 (without any bonuses). Yep, Italians are coming in haha.
That would be a TEAM.
With a budget of €300m is this the best you can come up with?

Of course we have the Allegri problem and no true fan can dispute that.
But we’re talking Tare’s job here with a budget of €300m.
My pick for a coach would definitely be between Enzo Maresca, Arne Slot and Xabi Alonso.
Allegri’s style as with most Italian coaches are so outdated, and Allegri leads the pack of boring play.

It is really insane that the players practically scream for 4-3-3 yet Allegri would rather die than use his players where they perform best. The solution? Swap half of the team or change the coach.
We all know which one makes more sense and is less risky. And there is a way out too. That would be pushing Allegri to take the Azzurri job.
If Pavlovic is worth 60+ million, then I’m so certain that Calafiori would be worth at least 70+ million.
Two thoughts (or three)
1. allegri will play 4-3-3. Knowing him (and understandably so) he wont do it until we qualify for UCL next season. In his mind the 3-5-2 is stable and got us to where we are. Going into the offseason, he will train a 4-3-3.
2. Sensible changes. I like Pavlo but i agree he isnt (or hasnt) done well on a back 4.
3. As always, i am concerned about making wholesale changes. You are suggesting changing 4-5 players from the lineup. (basically 50% of the starting tem). There is no progress if every year is year 0 and we replace half the team. As good as the changes are, this isnt fifa.
Midfield needs more balance. One of the reason I feel we can’t play 433 currently is because you can’t rely on a 40yo Modric to carry a defensive load 90mns each game. As much as I appreciate him, we need someone younger and more mobile to play regista.
I’d give Jashari a season of actual play time to see what he can and can not do and if Luka stays, sprinkle him in rotation. I would also love to upgrade Fofana to a player closer resembling Rabiot’s stature. I don’t think Fofana can play regista even if he claims to be one because in his current role he often misplaces passes.
As for the rest, need to offload all the question marks in midfield including the loanees coming back.
