Alessandro Nesta has shared his thoughts on the injuries that plagued Alexandre Pato’s career, blaming AC Milan’s medical staff for handling him poorly.

Pato arrived at Milan in 2007 and almost immediately, it became clear that he was a great talent. Due to regulations, he made his professional debut for the club mid-way through the season, but still managed to rack up nine goals at the age of 18.

He followed that up with 18 goals the next season, effectively doubling his tally, and continued to do well the season after that. However, in the 2010-11 Scudetto season, the injury troubles (that then never really ended) unfortunately began.

Milan to blame, Nesta says

In an interview with Cronache di Spogliatoio, Alessandro Nesta was asked about Pato and the Brazilian’s time at the club, seeing as he had so much potential. The Milan legend simply say that the medical staff messed up, allowing the player to train way too hard.

“In my opinion, Pato was poorly managed. This kid, who was going at 200 miles an hour, arrived and in my opinion, they made him train too much because they saw him as a kid.

“Instead, he was an explosive player whose excess of muscle mass led to injuries: that’s why he had so many, in my opinion,” he stated.

  1. He couldn’t have signed at a worse time.

Milan Lab had started to short circuit, the club was beginning its decline and was desperate for this kid to come to the rescue, and then to top it all off they signed Ronaldinho!

Having Kaka on one shoulder and Ronaldinho on the other was like the angel and the devil!

  2. He was one of those what if’s that personally really hurt. This kid was sensational and had the world at his feet.
