GdS: ‘The new Milan’ – Furlani and Allegri mastermind Rossoneri’s next steps over lunch

Yesterday at Milanello, Giorgio Furlani had lunch with Massimiliano Allegri to discuss the future of AC Milan and plan it together.

It is clear that Milan does not want to lose Allegri. In the midst of the ongoing rumours linking him to the vacant Italian national team position, Furlani has looked to strengthen the club’s position and discover his needs.

Presence at Milanello

As Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) writes, the pair enjoyed a meeting over lunch at Milanello yesterday after the morning training session, which Furlani was present for. Igli Tare was also there watching; a certain crisis prevention strategy seems to be playing out.

The immediate focus is undeniably the weekend’s game against Verona. A win would stop the fears, or at least slow them down. However, it is impossible not to look ahead to the summer.

Discussed over dinner

Tare and Furlani’s presence at Milanello was yet another sign of support for the coach, which they hope will entice him to stay. However, it will not be enough. The Italian wants one top-level signing in every position this summer – a defender, midfielder and attacker.

Thankfully, the Rossoneri are aiming to fulfil these wishes as well as keep him involved in the decision-making process. Indeed, it appears that he will be more of a ‘coach-manager’, rather than being one or the other. A sign of more control for him, which is certainly needed.

If it were up to them, Allegri would be the boss for a ‘very, very long time’. Wishes are nothing without proper action in football, though, but it seems that the Diavolo are aware of that.

  1. if Furlani is intelligent, he is keeping Max at the club. Simply from the financial standpoint. This management will never really reinforce any coach with the players they need to implement their philosphy/plans. But if you bring in another coach, then you have to spend more to bring in at least some of the players they request. Whereas Allegri is known to squeze the most out of the players at his disposal.
