New stadium of Milan: Capacity, facilities in the area and costs revealed

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan’s stadium project is progressing in San Donato, having presented their project to the city council. Many interesting details have now been leaked, revealing a capacity of 72k and an indoor Legoland facility.

Il Cittadino has gained access to the documents that Milan have presented to the city council, including all the major details of the project. The most important thing, perhaps, is that the capacity now is expected to be 72k instead of 70k.

Our colleagues at SempreMilan.it have picked out the key updates from the documents, such as the structure of the stadium and the facilities in the area. For example, there will also be a theatre with a capacity of 3k on the site, as well as a Legoland park.

Bars, restaurants, commercial activities, theatre, museum and Legoland

The stadium, as well as the various facilities, will be built on a podium of sorts to accommodate parking spaces underneath. There will be bars, restaurants, commercial activities, a hotel with around 200 rooms, a theatre with a capacity of 3k, the Milan museum and a Legoland park which will be located in an indoor structure.

New Casa Milan in San Donato

The project also includes the construction of Milan’s new headquarters. They currently reside on Via Aldo Rossi but for that office, the Rossoneri are paying rent after selling it back in 2021. Building a new Casa Milan in San Donato will thus save them money in the long run.

Multipurpose area

The area will not just be dedicated to the football games. The idea of the whole project is to create a hub not just for Milan fans, but also tourists who are looking to explore the city. 365 days per year, in other words, further monetising what will be an impressive spectacle. Then, of course, there will also be around 45 large-scale events at the stadium every year.

The structure: two-ring stadium

Milan’s new stadium will have two rings, as opposed to the three rings of San Siro, which makes it even more impressive that the capacity will be 72k. The entrance for the first ring will be accessible directly from the podium, while the second ring will be reached after going up a level.

The project would have a total cost of around one billion euros, a figure which also includes the contribution that the San Donato council will receive for some construction (around 40 million euros).

    1. It will be enough as Furlani can control the ticket price. Remember, the higher the ticket price, the lower the attendance and vice versa. Furlani will obviously chose the most profitable number.
