Journalist claims Newcastle will ‘knock on the door’ for Milan star but will be turned away

There will be attempts from the Premier League to try and sign Mike Maignan from AC Milan but they will receive the same answer, Carlo Pellegatti has claimed.

There is no doubting that Maignan is one of the most important players in the Milan squad along with the likes of Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao. Ever since his arrival from Lille in the summer of 2021 he has proven himself to be an elite goalkeeper and one of the few players capable of ‘winning’ points on his own.

The Frenchman is under contract until June 2026 which means the management are in no rush to do anything regarding his future, however there have been widespread reports that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara want to be proactive and offer a pay rise.

Meanwhile, journalist Carlo Pellegatti has spoken on his YouTube channel about the alleged interest in Maignan from Premier League side Newcastle.

“There is news coming from England, with Newcastle ready to spend from 113 to 169 million euros in the next transfer window,” he began (via MilanLive).

“There is a rumour that the Magpies would like to invest 60 million for Mike Maignan. They will knock on the door, like other international clubs, but they will receive nothing. The door will read ‘do not disturb’, or ‘we are out’. The door will be tightly closed, without doubts and without uncertainties.

“After July 1st, Maignan will have an increase to five million euros. If Alisson cost around 80 million… Maignan is a goalkeeper of absolute modernity. He’s a charismatic player, who talks to managers, who suggests. He is an extraordinary character.”
