News broke this morning that AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan would not move to Chelsea before the transfer deadline, due to negotiations breaking down.
It is almost a case of immovable force meets immovable object, really. Chelsea would not move from a bid of €15 million, whilst Milan sought a deal closer to €25m. Even though the asking price is really not ridiculous in any circumstance. As a result, the deal collapsed this morning.

Despite Maignan seeking an exit, he will have to wait as the talks come to a stop. So, what happens in the meantime?
The options moving forward
It is difficult to really assess the following actions. The traditional summer market opens in a few weeks, so this is when the Rossoneri will, again, have to find a buyer for the goalkeeper, with another Chelsea attempt impossible to rule out, per Milan News reports.
Alternatively, another attempt at a renewal can be made, though, with the Frenchman stating that he wants to leave, it is difficult to see this relationship being fixed. Especially, with his exit fuelled by frustration with the previous talks.
Finally, is that the summer ends without a transfer or an extension, the worst possible situation. Here, Maignan would see out another year, destined for an exit for nothing.

The Milan management desperate not to repeat “let players go for free”, therefore shoot themselves at the feet.

If Mike and Theo leave for free or sold for peanuts some portions of the fan base hopefully stop blaming Maldini. Those morons do not try to understand that M&M did not have final say and everything had to go through Elliot. Now with Redbird let’s see how they comment.

Plain and simple if he’s not sold this summer and doesn’t agree to an extension he rots away for a year. Don’t be held hostage by players.
Leao, Theo & Maignan were probably the worst Milan players last season. Leao and Theo made the chaos that resulted in Fonseca’s sacking. Maigan was terrible maybe before the last 10 games of the season.
Any player who wants to leave should leave. but these 3 should leave no matter what.
Statistics for Leao and Theo is ok even with both underperforming last season.
Emerson has had much worse performances than any of them.
Fofana, Musah, Thiaw, Pavlovic, Gabbia, Tomori all had very bad performances in some periods.
Even Reijnders and Pulisic had very bad performances. It’s a dysfunctional team. No one is going to be dominant for long if we don’t start playing better.
I still feel both Their and Maignan could’ve signed extensions in autumn if we hadn’t drop negotiations.

In the history I have never seen so many first team players expressing their will to leave Milan in such a short period of time.
Bennacer, Calabria, Leao, Theo, Maignan and even Reijnders with his last comment and Pulisic expressing his unhappiness, all in 5-6 months
Maignan should have not tried to force the move and burn bridges. Yes, he wants to leave but reality is no one is lining up for his services and he might have to stay at Milan for another season. If I were Milan management at this point, I would make it clear to Maignan that he won’t be featured and will be watching games from the stands – don’t let anyone hold the club hostage. Maignan knows he can’t afford to not play with the World Cup coming up next year – same goes for Theo and Leao. They can all leave but for the right price. They got no leverage as they all have contracts. Yes, Milan may end up losing them for free next season and so be it. I see it as a step to Cardinale to selling the club – he didn’t buy it to keep losing money.
Maignan wants to win. it’s very simple. our top players have no confidence in the ambition of the current Milan. They are all voting with their feet.
Yes, he is going to Chelsea for that?
Yes, Chelsea are in the CL, and will be a contender in all premier league competitions. He clearly believes in their project, but not Milan’s.
I mean, yes the management, yes the team, yes no CL, but is Milan and if you do good you will get noticed. MM16, you did not hold your s*** together. Once, twice, too many times.
