GdS: Nine players at risk of Milan exit as potential summer overhaul looms

By Oliver Fisher -

Even though the January transfer window is still in full swing, the AC Milan management are planning their strategy ahead of the summer including possible exits.

As this morning’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports, there are a whole series of players who do not know if they can and will still be part of the Milan squad for the 2023-24 season, for various reasons.

That means that in the next six months several current squad members will be playing for their future at Milan, starting with the players on loan like Brahim Diaz, Sergino Dest and Aster Vranckx. At the moment, the idea that the Rossoneri management will spend the €50m need to keep all three (as per their option to buy clauses) is unthinkable.

Tiemouè Bakayoko is looking for a new club and Adana Demirspor have come in with strong interest. If he were to depart, it could open the doors to a new addition in the last few days of the current window.

Then there are players like Yacine Adli who is getting no playing time, Matteo Gabbia who could be replaced and Ante Rebic who is very inconsistent. Ciprian Tatarusanu and Antonio Mirante destined to say goodbye when their deals expire.

  1. Dest price – 10 million upmost with salary 2,5 mill. Vranckx – 5 million, salaries 1,5mill. Diaz 10 – 12 mil, salary 2,5 – 3 mil net. That’s half price of 50 with relatively low salary. If their club rejects, leve them and put primavera youngsters like juventus.

    1. Why would Dest be so foolish to lower his salary from almost 4 mil to 2.5? He is just swapping being a marginal player at Barca to being a marginal player for Milan.
Might as well keep his high salary on his current contract

  2. Yeah, it sounds good but if Milan get rid of 11 players they have to bring in 11 players. With which money? Who will pay for transfer fees, agent fees, sign on fees for the player etc? Ridiculous idea. It would be better spending money on a top player than replacing 11 players with players of similar level. Different names won’t bring anything better, only quality will.

  3. Oh no, we don’t need players let continue the way we. And miss out on scudetto, CL, possibly Europa league and sponsorship deals. dumb management!!!

  4. All fringe players who wouldn’t be an issue to lose, but this spells out the big problem with Milan’s finances:

None of those players leaving will bring in any money (maybe except Adli and Rebic, but it wouldn’t be big numbers, especially with Rebic’s salary).

These fringe players are on loan or too old to have any value so the club needs to look at replacing at least 6 or 7 of them with no income from the players they’re replacing apart from saved salary. And that’s a huge challenge for any club without infinite funds available.

This is why those deals like Hauge, Adli and so on are important; getting players in for cheap on permanent contracts who could be resold to find replacements. Otherwise, this looks like a good reason to sell a star like Leao to be able to afford a squad…

  5. I would let them all leave. They are all dead weight. The only players I would keep would be Gabbia and Adli. If Adli is not going to get any minutes then he needs to go out on loan. The rest are just bodies and have not shown me anything to make me want to keep them. I would not even keep them if they were free. I would rather they be gone and not add to the wage budget.

We have to start investing in players that might actually contribute when coming off the bench. None of these guys provides anything.

  6. Out : Tatarusanu, Mirante, Dest, Ballo-Toure, Vranckx, Rebic, Bakayoko, Adli (loan), Origi, Lazetic (loan), Ibrahimovic (retired).

In : Sportiello, Grimaldo, Singo, N’dicka, Aouar, Angelo Gabriel, Luis Guilherme, Tielemans, Antonio Nussa, Moukoko, Rasmus Hojlund.
