GdS: No Theo and new midfield – Allegri’s plan for new look Milan

With a number of changes expected this summer, a first look at what Massimiliano Allegri’s AC Milan could look like has been reported.

With new ideas forming, whether that’s due to departures or those seeking an exit, a new look Milan team is expected next season. So, Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) has tried to make an early prediction of what it could look like.

The new team

Starting in goal, Allegri still wants to keep Maignan, despite his wish to leave. In fact, he hopes to start new talks with the Frenchman over a renewal. However, that idea will not extend to Theo Hernandez, it seems. Instead, Davide Bartesaghi could start at left-back next year.

In the middle, the Italian seemingly likes the idea of Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic, who were decently solid when partnered together this season. Then, Alexis Saelemaekers could be used at right-back.

Youssouf Fofana would be the only remaining midfielder from this season, and he could partner Luka Modric and Granit Xhaka to form a balanced midfield three. Then the front line would be untouched – Christian Pulisic, Santiago Gimenez and Rafael Leao. Though it seems that Allegri would still like a new striker, such as Dusan Vlahovic.

  1. That midfield and particularly the defense to not suggest a top 4 finish. Replace Modric and Xhaka with Ricci and Jashari, and Bartesaghi with an established LB and then maybe yes.

    1. Ricci, Jashari (or maybe someone more established), Dodo, DeCuyper have to be thr first ones we go for and with our current budget + Musah’s 25M can give us all 4…

Modric is free and anything above 15M for Xhaka is insane… Alexis, Bartesaghi, Adli, Jovic should be kept… Immobile will most likely also cost quite cheap under-5M…

1 winger is left to be signed after that… can easily be Chiesa on loan + option…

depth is not the problem, quality starting 11 is!

    2. I rather like Bartesaghi and think he is the most ready of all Milan youths including Zeroli and Camarda. He would do an adequate job at LB albeit with some growing pains.

      1. True, but I’m still trying to figure out (and the coaches may be too) if Bartesaghi’s actually more of a CB or a LB. He needs consistent minutes, and next season will be a pressure cooker with us NEEDING to get back into the top 4. He would be best served by being an undisputed starter for a Serie B club. If anything, last season was precisely the time to give him significant minutes to test him out, given our basically being eliminated from Europe via the league in March and Theo’s very negative season. Bartesaghi should have been given a healthy dose of time in Serie A during the last two months of the campaign, but Conceicao was too thick for it.

        1. Absolutely agree in that last year was the time to get him some minutes. The few minutes he did actually get were sparse so you couldn’t really see what he was capable of without consistency. My concern primarily with him is speed or lack-of which would make him better suited as a CB long-term. A backup role with the first team would be good if he gets sufficient minutes but short of that a loan to a top Serie B team or a low end Serie A team would be best for him.

    3. Modric and Xhaka like a fine wine. Remember what Pirlo did in Allegri system at age 35. In the last couple of year, we dont have any ‘real’ playmaker in our team. So our playing tempo is a mess. Now we have.

  2. With Reijnders’ money Milan should have bought Baturina and Jashari. With the midfield Milan is building, the Scudetto is plain impossible.

  3. I can see this team conceding far fewer chances than we did last year, but the risk is that we lose a lot of offensive threat and don’t really provide any at all. Modric I don’t count on for many full games, but we do have a platoon of other centre midfielders… but how many of them are going to contribute going forward? If we go with this, we’re relying on Gimenez being an absolute star with conversion ratios.

  4. So Ricci is totally of the table? I only see reports about Xaka and nothing about Ricci?

How can Allegri not preferr to get Ricci for 20-25 million over paying 10-15 million for Xaka? I really dont get it

If the goal is to make the team more Italian, bying Ricci over Xaka and get Calabria back makes alot more sense?

    Same with signing Leoni.

Barthesaghi as left back isnt crazy. He has great potential. But another left back needs to be signed (and not Zinchenko).

The dream would be to get Leoni/Ricci/Calafiori (Or Udogie) and Immobile (as backup to Gimenez).

4 italians in, and alot of dead weight leaving.

    1. Jashari is better than Ricci. I think Allegri is looking for a Deeplying playmaker to dictact tempo like Pirlo. So we have news about Modric, Xhaka and Jashari

  5. Maigan for me is terrible keeping g him means Allergri is not serious at all and also fofana too must go milan needs a midfielder who can control, keep and give meaningful passes when necessary

  6. Massimiliano Allegri’s return to AC Milan is already setting the stage for a major summer overhaul, 필스토리
