MN: Germany U21 captain joins Milan’s list of Maignan replacement candidates

A new name has emerged in AC Milan’s hunt to find a potential replacement for Mike Maignan: Noah Atubolu of SC Freiburg.

Igli Tare and Massimiliano Allegri’s attempts to convince Maignan to stay seem to have failed. The Frenchman already his mind on Chelsea, and everything suggests that the deal will be done at some point.

Atubolu: Maignan’s replacement?

Noah Atubolu is the latest name on Milan’s radar. At just 23 years of age he has already made 75 appearances for Freiburg, with whom he finished fifth in the Bundesliga this season.

As the captain of the German U21 team, he is now at the European Championships in his category with his country, where he will be closely followed by Premier League clubs and Milan.

Atubolu is considered one of the best talents in German football and the future of the German national team given that he will eventually graduate up to the senior side.

He joined the Freiburg academy and then came through the Under 17, Under 19 and second team levels. Helping them secure qualification for Europe is also believes to have attracted the interest of Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham United.

Noah Atubolu joins the likes of Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, Mile Svilar, Zion Suzuki and Marco Carnesecchi among the goalkeepers recently linked with becoming Milan’s new number one.

  1. Or you could just make Torriani the starting goalie. You don’t necessarily need a superb goalie. You just need a good team that doesn’t concede as many goals. Just like Pep’s Barcelona made Valdes look incredible. Meanwhile Morata missed his spotkick yesterday. Hope Gala do not change their mind about him 😅

    1. I was about to comment and say all these daily reports of looking for keepers who’ll be our number 1 must suck for Torriani, who is deputy therefore should graduate to no. 1…

      1. As person who follows German football, I think more than Noah Atubolu, Milan should sign Tjark Ernst of Hertha Berlin. Like Atubolu, Tjark Ernst is good at distribution. Unlike Atubolu (who is prone is to brain farts every now then), Tjark Ernst is reliable goalkeeper. So unlike Atubolu, Tjark Ernst would come cheap for Milan.

  2. Sign De Gea and let him mentor Torriani for two season and have him between the post for decades to come. At least he had a good season with so many save.
