Romano: ‘Never been an option for Milan’ – Liverpool striker to seal €53m Saudi move

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Darwin Nunez was ‘never’ an option for AC Milan, despite the reports circulating suggesting otherwise.

Romano did state earlier this week that Milan have been offered the former Benfica man, who is deemed surplus to requirements. However, Al-Hilal always seemed to be the frontrunners given that they had no issues meeting the request in terms of transfer fee.

The journalist tweeted the famous ‘here we go’ regarding Nunez to the Saudi side yesterday. A verbal agreement has been completed between all parties over a €53m operation (plus add-ons). The former Benfica man will sign a three-year deal. A medical will soon take place, so Milan must look elsewhere.

Immediate rejection

Fabrizio Romano posted a video on his YouTube channel and he addressed the rumours that Milan were a possible landing spot for the Uruguay striker, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

“Darwin Nunez, on the other hand [referring to Hojlund and Vlahovic], has never been an option for Milan. The Liverpool striker will join Al Hilal in the next few days for €53m. He was offered to the Rossoneri at the beginning of July, but the Rossoneri immediately rejected the option because it was too expensive.”

  1. With the discussions of loan options recently and cheap Juventus want away players I wonder if the rumoured striker budget Milan have was ever true…

    1. They anticipated some cash in from Bennacer, Adli, Thiaw, Musah, not to mention Chuck and Okafor. Obviously Thiaw’s rejection to Como was the right move both for club and player – Allegri wants him, but if he wants to leave we will cash in at least +5M. From the rest we need to offload at least 3 players, which would probably be sufficient to support a big striker name.

  2. Será que vendendo Chuck Musah bennacer Adli não daria pra trazer Nunez já que ele foi oferecido deram quase 40M em jasari

  3. I would be against letting Thiaw go unless you get a quality ball playing CB. Renato Vega from Chelsea is there, Leoni isn’t ready.

The other option for ST on a budget can be Duvan Zapata. He is much older but he is experienced and he plays with his back to goal. He is probably a cheaper option but gets what u want.

Musha isn’t going. Adli, Bennacer and Bondo can go and I haven’t seen anything move on that front.

    1. I agree with you. Duvan Zapata, Luis Muriel + ademola lookman are experienced in Seri A and play more aggressive at front. Thats Milan need to support gimenez / leao. Zapata + Muriel more cheaper than lookman.

  4. The next it will be vlahovic seal move to Saudi too. His salary its out of Milan world. Too expensive + too much drama

    1. yep, drama is guaranteed part of his contract. Like Gigio with us and now with PSG, like Hakan with us and now Inter.

In Vlahovic’s case he will sign with whoever for a big salary and stay until the end of his contract or last 12 months (free transfer or peanuts price tag to be able to request again high salary from his next team). He is trying to ‘cheat’ the system, good for him if it works out, but usually couple of disgruntled clubs will kill his future prospects.
