AC Milan are looking to strengthen the team at Stefano Pioli’s disposal ahead of the new season and besides experienced and ready players like Tiemoue Bakayoko, the club is also targeting players for the future, as seen with the arrivals of Emil Roback and Pierre Kalulu.
And another player added to this list of promising youngsters could be Nuno Mendes, Sporting Lisbon’s promising defender. This was reported by O Jogo, one of Portugal’s most prominent newspapers.
The newspaper adds that Milan submitted a 15 million euros offer for the player plus a percentage of any potential resale fee, but this offer did not convince the Portuguese club. The player has a 45 million euros release clause inserted in his contract with Sporting. Arsenal and Manchester United are also interested in the youngster’s services.
Mendes is just 18 years old and his main position is on the left side of the defence. However, he can also play as a centre-back if necessary.
The player collected 9 appearances in the Portuguese league last seasons, featuring in a total of 657 minutes. He is also a regular for Portugal’s youth national teams and recently received his first call-up for the U21 side.
