Repubblica: Council vote and Pruiti declaration – obstacles grow for Milan’s La Maura plan

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are running into obstacles in their plan to build a new stadium in the area of the La Maura racecourse before things have even really got off the ground.

As reported by La Repubblica (via Calciomercato.com), yesterday councillors also presented an agenda to be voted on by the city council to say no to the construction of the stadium in the La Maura area, and the number of councillors opposed to the idea went from 20 to 31.

Mayor Beppe Sala said he was at least willing to view the project and evaluate it based on the plans, yet there are 31 councillors who will not even give the project the time of day.

Milan are in any case willing to build alone in the La Maura area, but the opposition of the City Council remains the biggest thorn given that even the Region – which from next year will take over more powers over the South Park – are not forcing their hand.

The regional councilor for the Territory Gianluca Comazzi declared: “On La Maura we do not have any kind of prejudice in saying that it can be done or not, but first it is necessary to evaluate the project. Mayor Sala is not playing this game, he is suffering: take your responsibilities.”

Even from the South Park, however, there are new obstacles for Milan. The mayor of Buccinasco – Rino Pruiti – as president of the mayors of the park , was interviewed by Il Foglio regarding the Rossoneri stadium project.

“The South Park simply, by law, cannot allow anything to be built on its territory that is not the recovery of the existing one or the development of the agricultural park,” he said.

“Let me explain: at Maura they want to make a track for horses? No problem. Do they want to build more stables? Ditto. Do they want to put a tennis court there? Well, there is the problem. And if there is a problem for a tennis court, let alone a stadium for 60,000 people. No, impossible.

“And in fact no one has asked anything of us in the Park. Also because if they did, the question would probably stop at the protocol, it would not even be taken into consideration by the board.

“Which law can be circumvented? Unless it’s the Lombardy Region, you don’t change the regional law on parks. Moreover, they are already putting us under commission and therefore even if a request arrives, we could not do anything but reply that we are in ordinary administration.”

  1. So basically the everyone in Milan wants to see both Milanese giants suffer and let Juve dominate the league. Well… Then enjoy the World Cup and EUROs in the future Italy-free competitions as the Azzurri will also suffer from the lack of Italian stars.

    1. Basically yes. It is so corrupt.

Just move to Sesto. Then Sala and his minions can cry about the money lost. Its very simple. Move to Sesto. Things are already in place there.
