MN: Obstacles to La Maura stadium grow with location getting less important for Milan

By Euan Burns -

The obstacles that stand between AC Milan and a new stadium just for them at La Maura are only getting stronger and it could lead to a change of criteria from the club, a report claims.

As has been reported by Milan News, the Rossoneri are more than willing to break away from Inter and make a stadium of their own, which is why the La Maura idea was born.

However, there has been opposition from the city council, residents and environmentalists. Despite Mayor Beppe Sala’s agreement with the idea, these are issues that will not go away quickly.

Milan believe that they are losing €100 million every season by not having their own stadium and all of the revenue that can come with it.

There has been a desire to make the new stadium as close to either the centre of Milan or San Siro as possible, but they now feel that location is less important than just getting a stadium built.

The example given is Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena which is just under an hour on public transport from the main train station in Munich, but still functions as a tourist area for people to visit the stadium and shop there.

  1. The Sesto San Giovanni site is only 15 min from the Duomo by train. Not sure what all the drama is. It’s close to trains and major roads. We’re wasting time with La Maura.

    1. Exactly.

Just scrap this project and go there. Let the Mayor and Inter go back and forth for the next decade. Enough is enough.
